      Advice: Yates protected a two-run Texas lead in the top of the ninth frame, retiring the side in order on 16 pitches. The veteran reliever is a perfect 11-for-11 in save chances this season -- no closer in baseball has converted more saves without blowing any opportunities.       Kirby Yates pitched a clean ninth inning with a strike out in a win over the Mets on Wednesday.

    • Kirby Yates takes first loss after unearned run
      Kirby Yates took his first loss after giving up an unearned run in the ninth Tuesday against the Mets.

      Advice: José Leclerc’s inability to get the job done in the seventh stressed the Rangers bullpen tonight. David Roberson had to get the final two outs of that inning and then wound up giving up two runs in the eighth on his 30th pitch of the night. Yates came into a tie game in the ninth and gave up the go-ahead run on a walk, a catcher’s interference and a double. The catcher’s interference was provided by J.D. Martinez, who again tested the boundaries of the batter’s box, but at least he didn’t break anyone’s arm this time. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:46 pm
       
    • Roughed up in loss
      Lively (6-3) took the loss Sunday against Toronto, yielding four earned runs on six hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Lively pitched for the first time in eight days after leaving his most recent start with tightness after 65 pitches. He surrendered a two-run home run to Ernie Clement in the second inning, his first home run allowed since May 26. The four earned runs are a season worst for the 32-year-old, who had notched wins in each of his previous five starts. Despite Sunday's rough outing, Lively has pitched well for Cleveland this season, logging a 3.02 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and a 52:18 K:BB across 59.2 innings pitched.     • Lively gives up four in loss to Blue Jays Sunday
      Ben Lively allowed four runs in four innings and got the loss against the Blue Jays on Sunday.



      Advice: Lively gave up six hits, walked three and struck out four. He had won his last five starts. Lively had allowed two runs through the first four innings. He was removed after walking Spencer Horwitz and Davis Schneider to begin the fifth inning. Both runners scored on Daulton Varsho’s grand slam off Nick Sandlin. Lively isn’t as good as his 3.02 ERA suggests given his 4.15 xFIP. He’s benefited greatly from an 85 percent left on base percentage and that caught it up with him a little bit on Sunday. He’s still been a really good find off the waiver wire for fantasy managers. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the Blue Jays at home next week.

    • Nabs 10th save
      Yates picked up the save over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing one walk over a scoreless ninth inning while striking out three.

      Advice: Yates had a bit of a hard time getting through the ninth after entering the contest with a two-run lead, surrendering a leadoff walk to Teoscar Hernandez on five pitches and advancing him to second base on a balk. However, the veteran reliever made short work of the next three batters, getting all three to go down swinging as he secured his 10th save in as many chances. Yates has been solid in the closer role for Texas thus far and holds a 1.11 ERA on the campaign. He's also recorded multiple strikeouts in three of his last four appearances and has yet to surrender a home run in 2024. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:04 am
       
    • Blows save opportunity Thursday
      Scott (5-5) took the loss and blew a save against the Mets on Thursday, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one-third of an inning.

      Advice: Scott was 8-for-9 in save chances coming into Thursday and hadn't blown a save since mid-April. In fact, he had rattled off 19 straight outings without allowing an earned run, racking up five wins and seven saves during that stretch. However, the southpaw couldn't protect a one-run, ninth-inning lead versus New York, issuing a leadoff walk to Francisco Lindor before serving up a walk-off two-run blast to J.D. Martinez two batters later. Despite the implosion Thursday, Scott has pitched well enough this season to not currently be in danger of losing his closing role, but that success could also make him a prime candidate to be dealt by the rebuilding Marlins.       Kirby Yates struck out three in a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Dodgers on Thursday.

      Advice: Yates did allow a walk, but this was a much better effort than the one he had Wednesday when he picked up a save but was fortunate to not blow the opportunity. The right-hander has been outstanding for the overwhelming majority of 2024, and this scoreless outing gives him a 1.11 ERA along with 10 saves. He isn’t giving up this closing gig.     • Scott blows second save against Mets Thursday
      Tanner Scott allowed two runs and blew the save against the Mets on Thursday.

      Advice: Scott came into the ninth inning with a one-run lead on the road. He walked Francisco Lindor before striking out Brandon Nimmo. Then J.D. Martinez got him for a walk-off two-run home run. It was just his second blown save of the season. His last blown save was on April 14th against Atlanta. Scott’s ERA is now 1.93.
