      Yates picked up the save over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing one walk over a scoreless ninth inning while striking out three.

      Advice: Yates had a bit of a hard time getting through the ninth after entering the contest with a two-run lead, surrendering a leadoff walk to Teoscar Hernandez on five pitches, who would later advance to second on a called balk. However, the veteran reliever made short work of the next three batters, getting all three to go down swinging as he secured his 10th save in as many chances. Yates has been solid in the closer role for Texas thus far and now holds a 1.11 ERA on the campaign.     • Blows save opportunity Thursday
      Scott (5-5) took the loss and blew a save against the Mets on Thursday, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one-third of an inning.

      Advice: Scott was 8-for-9 in save chances coming into Thursday and hadn't blown a save since mid-April. In fact, he had rattled off 19 straight outings without allowing an earned run, racking up five wins and seven saves during that stretch. However, the southpaw couldn't protect a one-run, ninth-inning lead versus New York, issuing a leadoff walk to Francisco Lindor before serving up a walk-off two-run blast to J.D.     • Kirby Yates whiffs three in save against Dodgers
      Kirby Yates struck out three in a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Dodgers on Thursday.

      Advice: Yates did allow a walk, but this was a much better effort than the one he had Wednesday when he picked up a save but was fortunate to not blow the opportunity. The right-hander has been outstanding for the overwhelming majority of 2024, and this scoreless outing gives him a 1.11 ERA along with 10 saves. He isn’t giving up this closing gig.       Bradley (2-4) earned the win against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing two (unearned) runs on three hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts over seven innings.

      Advice: Bradley was dominant other than the fifth inning, when the Cubs scored two unearned runs on back-to-back bunts. This was arguably the best start of Bradley's young career, as he registered 17 swinging strikes on 104 pitches and tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts. While Bradley has been up-and-down in 2024, Thursday's effort showed his immense potential when he has his best stuff.       Tanner Scott allowed two runs and blew the save against the Mets on Thursday.

      Advice: Scott came into the ninth inning with a one-run lead on the road. He walked Francisco Lindor before striking out Brandon Nimmo. Then J.D. Martinez got him for a walk-off two-run home run. It was just his second blown save of the season. His last blown save was on April 14th against Atlanta. Scott’s ERA is now 1.93.       Taj Bradley matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts and allowed two runs (zero earned) over seven innings on Thursday in a win over the Cubs.

      Advice: Bradley gave up three hits, walked two over seven frames to pick up his second of the season through seven starts. His previous season-high for strikeouts was 10, but he also allowed five runs in that start. While Bradley’s ERA is 4.23 this year, his xFIP is significantly lower at 3.10.       Trea Turner (hamstring) progressed to running at 100 percent on Thursday.

      Advice: Turner is trending towards making his long-awaited return to Philadelphia’s lineup at some point early next week. It sounds like the 30-year-old shortstop will skip a minor-league rehab assignment, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get in a couple at-bats over the weekend prior to returning.       Merrill went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the A's.

      Advice: The rookie center fielder took Hogan Harris deep in the fifth inning, setting the stage for Merrill to play hero by ripping a slider from Mason Miller down the right-field line in the bottom of the ninth for his first career walk-off homer. In the process, Merrill become the youngest player in Padres history with a walk-off blast, and the youngest player in MLB history with a two-homer game that included a walk-off shot. The 21-year-old snapped a 26-game homer drought with the performance, and he's been heating up in June, batting .355 (11-for-31) over the last eight contests with four doubles, two steals, four RBI and five runs.
