    • Diagnosed with torn UCL
Sandoval told reporters Monday that he has a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Sandoval was removed in the third inning of Friday's start against the Dodgers, and he was placed on the injured list Saturday. The injury is more severe than what was originally labelled a left elbow strain, and the 27-year-old southpaw will have to undergo surgery. Whether Sandoval undergoes an internal brace procedure or Tommy John has yet to be determined, but he will be out of action for at least a year. Prior to the injury, Sandoval was 2-8 over 16 starts with a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB over 79.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:14 pm
    • Patrick Sandoval needs season-ending UCL surgery
Patrick Sandoval was found to have a torn UCL and will undergo season-ending surgery.

Advice: If it’s a full Tommy John, Sandoval will miss most or all of 2025. If he has the internal brace operation, it’s more likely that he’ll be able to return for the second half of the year. In spite of improved peripherals, Sandoval was 2-8 with a 5.08 ERA for the Angels this season. He had a 3.85 FIP, a 4.13 xERA and a 4.13 SIERA, but a .341 BABIP was causing big problems. • Hitting bench Monday
Rogers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Rogers will hit the bench after he started behind the plate both of the past two days and in three of the past four games overall. The 29-year-old is slashing just .150/.171/.375 overall in June, but he appears to have worked his way back into a timeshare at catcher with Carson Kelly nonetheless. Rotowire.com Monday, 12:23 pm
    • Orioles officially promote Kjerstad from AAA
Orioles recalled 1B/OF Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: The rumored move is now official, as the Orioles promote Kjerstad - again - after hitting .301/.390/.601 with 16 homers, 58 RBI, and a pair of stolen bases in 55 games. The bad news for fantasy managers is that the Orioles did not demote Colton Cowser in a corresponding move, meaning the team would need to decide to sit Cowser on the bench and not give him at-bats for Kjerstad to see regular playing time. It would seem to make no sense for one of Kjerstad or Cowser to sit on a major league bench and not play regularly but that might be the situation we’re heading towards. Or they will both split time often enough that each of their fantasy values will take a considerable hit. We’ll have to see how it plays out this week before knowing for sure. • Officially summoned from Triple-A
The Orioles recalled Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Advice: Kjerstad will get another shot with the big club but it's uncertain whether he'll see regular at-bats. He played sparingly during his last stint, starting just four times over a 17-game stretch. Colton Cowser has slashed just .183/.285/.299 since the beginning of May, so it's possible Kjerstad will eat into his playing time in the outfield. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:14 am

    • Orioles set to promote Heston Kjerstad on Monday
Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports that the Orioles plan to promote Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Advice: The 25-year-old slugger doesn’t have anything left to prove at the Triple-A level where he’s slashing .301/.390/.601 with 16 homers, 58 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 55 games. It’s unclear how he’ll be utilized in Baltimore though. He’s likely to fill the role that Kyle Stowers had before his demotion earlier this week, getting nothing more than the occasional start against right-handed pitching. Without the promise of everyday at-bats, it’s difficult to get excited about his prospects from a fantasy perspective. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:57 pm

    • Expected to be called up Monday
Kjerstad is set to be called up to the major-league roster Monday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Kjerstad spent a little over two weeks with the Orioles in late April and early May, going 2-for-14 with two walks and six strikeouts while appearing in seven contests. Since being sent down to Triple- Norfolk on May 13, the 25-year-old produced a .268 average with six home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs and a stolen base over 34 contests, and he'll look to carry his momentum into his second stint with Baltimore in 2024. It's unclear who Kjerstad will replace on the major-league roster, but with Colton Cowser struggling to a .170 average with four extra-base hits over 53 at-bats in June, it's possible that Cowser is the odd man out. • Trent Grisham has two hits in loss
Trent Grisham went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a loss to the Braves on Sunday.

Advice: Grisham got the start in center field and came away with two singles on the day. He’s still hitting just .136/.275/.318 on the season; however, with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL, Grisham figures to get the majority of the starts against right-handed pitching with Aaron Judge sliding into the DH spot. Managers in deeper formats could roster Grisham in the short-term given his left-handed power in Yankee Stadium and the strong lineup around him. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:33 pm

    • Back with big club
Oakland selected Brooks' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

Advice: After designating Brooks for assignment June 2, the Athletics outrighted him to Las Vegas two days later upon clearing waivers. He's gone 1-1 in his two starts since returning to Triple-A, allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out eight over nine innings. Though he'll rejoin the big club ahead of Sunday's game against the Twins, Brooks will likely be relegated to a mop-up role out of the bullpen after turning in a 5.82 ERA in his four starts with Oakland earlier this season.
