    • Bypassed in save opportunity
Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid. Brewer is at least worth keeping an eye on in the short term. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago
    • Records first save
Brewer worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants.

Advice: Brewer just returned from the injured list last week and he's possibly already moved up the bullpen hierarchy. Regular closer Hector Neris has allowed seven earned runs over his last three appearances with two blown saves, including in Monday's contest. The veteran Neris may have simply been getting some rest, and there's been no official word that the team is making a change, but this is a situation worth monitoring. Brewer would of course see a jump in fantasy value if he starts getting regular save opportunities. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago
    • Adam Kloffenstein expected to join Cards Thursday
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Cardinals plan to promote Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 68/29 K/BB ratio over 77 innings in 14 starts at Triple-A Memphis this season. It’s unclear if he’ll actually get an opportunity to start with the Cardinals, or will function as a long man out of their bullpen while he’s up. Either way, he’s unlikely to make a major impact for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld Today, 5:17 pm
    • Earns win in return to rotation
Hendricks (1-4) allowed one run on two hits across 5.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Giants. He walked one and struck out eight.

Advice: Making his first start since May 17, Hendricks looked sharp, particularly with the season-high eight strikeouts. Since that last start and his shift to the bullpen, the veteran has pitched much better than earlier in the season. Hendricks now has a 2.70 ERA over his last 20 innings pitched including Wednesday's start. He figures to stick in the rotation for now, and his next appearance is tentatively set for Tuesday against the Giants again, this time on the road. Rotowire.com Today, 5:17 pm

    • Looking better lately
Wentz tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta, extending his streak of scoreless outings to four.

Advice: Wentz has had an up-and-down season, though he's trending upward recently. The lefty had a 1.08 ERA across his first 11 appearances, then posted a 16.00 ERA over his next six games before his current scoreless streak started. Overall, Wentz has a 5.34 ERA, and he's mostly off the fantasy radar as a low-leverage reliever despite his better results lately. Rotowire.com Today, 5:10 pm
    • Josiah Gray goes 79 pitches in latest rehab start
Josiah Gray (elbow) pitched well in Wednesday’s minor league rehab start at Double-A Harrisburg, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing three free passes. Gray got up to 79 pitches in the outing, and the original plan had been for him to make one additional rehab start after this one to get to around six innings or 90 pitches. Given how strong he has looked though, there’s a chance that the Nationals could opt to bring him back early. Either way, he could rejoin the Nationals’ rotation before the end of next week. • Headed to majors
The Cardinals will recall Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kloffenstein has spent all season with Memphis, posting a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 77 innings across 14 starts. Although he has been used almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor-league career, he will likely be used as a multi-inning reliever while with St. Louis. The 23-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. Rotowire.com Today, 4:54 pm
    • Brewers designate Elieser Hernandez for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Elieser Hernandez for assignment.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler was signed to an MLB contract earlier this month, but he already finds himself on the outs after registering a solid 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio over six innings with the ballclub. There’s a decent chance that he generates interest on waivers. Bradley Blalock was recalled from Double-A Biloxi in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 4:36 pm
    • Reinstated for Wednesday's start
The Dodgers activated Miller (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rockies, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Timesreports.

Advice: The right-hander has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation since mid-April, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after a four-start rehab assignment in the minors. Miller posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB over 11.2 frames in three outings prior to the injury. Walker Buehler (hip) is headed to the injured list in a corresponding move.
