    • Not starting Friday
Carpenter is not in the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Astros.

Advice: The southpaw batter will start the game from the dugout as the Tigers take on lefty pitcher Framber Valdez. Carpenter is slashing .269/.330/.471 with 15 RBI so far this season. Rotowire.com Today, 11:50 am

    • No longer starting Friday
Taillon won't start Friday in Pittsburgh, as the Cubs list Javier Assad as the starter for the series opener versus the Pirates, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: The Cubs had previously listed Taillon as their probable starter for Friday, so the late change perhaps hints that the right-hander may be tending to an injury. The decision to have Assad take the hill for the series opener wouldn't seem to be the result of any dissatisfaction with Taillon's performance, as the 32-year-old has opened his second season with the Cubs with a 3-0 record, 1.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP over 24 innings. Justin Steele will take the hill on four days' rest to start Saturday, while the Cubs are listing their starter for Sunday's series finale as "TBA." More clarity on the Cubs' plans for Sunday -- as well as when Taillon might next pitch -- should come prior to Friday's contest, when manager Craig Counsell meets with the media. • Heads back to minors
The Rangers optioned Leiter to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Advice: Leiter was up as the 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Athletics and got rocked for six runs (four earned) over four innings. Because he was the designated 27th man, the 15-day rule doesn't apply to Leiter, who remains an option to make a start next week versus the Guardians. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 am

    • Three hits in win
Yelich went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Yelich singled in his first at-bat before coming home on a Rhys Hoskins home run as the Brewers took an early 3-0 lead. The outfielder would then add an RBI triple in the fifth to extend Milwaukee's lead and finished the game with three hits for only the second time this season. Yelich had gone hitless in his first game back from the injured list but he's actually hit safely in 11 of his 13 games overall this season. He's also driven in at least one run in four of his last six contests. Rotowire.com Today, 4:11 am

    • Christian Yelich posts three hits, RBI in blowout
Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday, lifting the Brewers to a 7-1 blowout victory over the division-rival Cardinals.

Advice: Yelich shook off Wednesday’s tough 0-for-5 performance in his return from the injured list against the Royals with a stellar three-hit performance in his return to American Family Field. The 32-year-old corner outfielder padded Milwaukee’s lead with a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning as part of a three-hit effort that raised his full-season batting average to a sublime .333 (16-for-48) mark through 13 games. If he can avoid the back issues that have plagued him the last few years, he’ll remain an impact contributor for fantasy managers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:26 pm

    • Sidelined by illness
Rengifo (illness) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Rengifo has been held out of the lineup for five straight games with the illness, so his stint on the injured list will be retroactive to May 6. Kyren Paris was recalled from Double-A Rocket City in a corresponding move and should take over in a utility role while Rengifo is sidelined. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:40 pm

    • Luis Rengifo (viral infection) lands on 10-day IL
Angels placed INF Luis Renfigo on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a viral infection.

Advice: Rengifo finally heads to the injured list following a five-game absence due to a viral infection. The 27-year-old infielder should be ready to return when first eligible to be activated later next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:28 pm

    • Tagged for eight runs
Gilbert (3-1) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Five of Minnesota's runs came in the first inning, including three on a Manuel Margot double. Gilbert hadn't allowed more than two earned runs in his previous five starts, recording quality starts in six of his previous seven outings. His ERA went from 1.69 to 2.94 after Thursday with a 0.94 WHIP and 54:15 K:BB across 52 innings. Gilbert will look to get back on track in his next turn in the rotation, currently scheduled for next week against Kansas City. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:42 pm

    • Logan Gilbert allows eight over four against Twins
Logan Gilbert was shelled for eight runs in four innings while picking up a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Gilbert allowed nine hits with two walks while adding for strikeouts. To say the right-hander was a disappointment was an understatement, as he entered this outing with a sensational 1.69 ERA over 48 innings. That ERA immediately took a hit with five runs allowed in the first, and three more crossed the plate before ending his 91-pitch day. The Twins are on fire and Gilbert was due for a poor outing, but this is still not one fantasy managers could have seen coming. He’ll be back on the bump against the Royals on Tuesday.
