    • Kyle Hendricks whiffs eight in win over Giants
Kyle Hendricks struck out eight and allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Giants.

Advice: Hendricks carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning on Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field before coughing up a leadoff double to Thairo Estrada, who came around to score later in the frame on a ground out from Heliot Ramos. He induced 14 swinging strikes and finished with a near-elite 39 percent CSW. It was his strongest outing of the season by a considerable margin. The soft-tossing 34-year-old veteran is too risky to trust in shallow mixed leagues in the wake of his early-season struggles, but he’s making the most of his opportunity to step back into Chicago’s injury-ravaged starting rotation. He’ll take the ball on Tuesday in a rematch against the Giants out in San Francisco at Oracle Park. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:34 pm

    • Activated ahead of start
The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he built up to only 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound. Anthony Rizzo (arm) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room for Cole on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:18 pm

    • Yankees activate Gerrit Cole for 2024 season debut
Yankees activated RHP Gerrit Cole from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 33-year-old hurler is finally ready to make his highly anticipated 2024 season debut against the Orioles on Wednesday. He looked fantastic in three minor league rehab starts, registering a 0.73 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and a 19/1 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings. As long as he’s healthy and on the mound, there’s little reason to expect anything other than vintage Gerrit Cole on Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:16 pm

    • Kyle Bradish undergoes Tommy John surgery
The Orioles announced on Wednesday that Kyle Bradish underwent successful Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery with an internal brace procedure on Wednesday in Dallas.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander will obviously miss the remainder of the 2024 season and will miss at least the first half of the 2025 campaign as well while recovering from the surgery. Fantasy managers in season-long leagues can safely cut bait now. He finishes the 2024 season with a 2.75 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings in his eight starts. • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Orioles general manager Mike Elias announced that Bradish (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace Wednesday, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Bradish was first diagnosed with a partial UCL tear in his elbow in mid-February, and while his initial rehab was successful -- he posted a 2.75 ERA and 53:15 K:BB over 39.1 innings covering eight starts -- he suffered a setback coming out of his most recent outing last Friday. After having his elbow re-examined, Bradish made the decision to have the surgery. Elias said Wednesday that he expects Bradish to miss 12-to-18 months, leaving the right-hander's availability for the entire 2025 season in doubt. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:06 pm

    • Tarik Skubal gives up two homers in loss to Braves
Tarik Skubal surrendered five runs — four earned — in four innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: Skubal struck out seven and gave up only five hard-hit balls. Unfortunately, two of those hard-hit balls went 426 and 407 feet, as Skubal allowed two homers for just the second time this season. It’s the fourth time this season that he’s allowed exactly four earned runs. He’s given up a total of nine earned runs in his other 11 outings. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:31 pm

    • Takes second straight loss
Skubal (8-3) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Most of the damage against Skubal came via the long ball Wednesday -- he gave up a two-run homer to Sean Murphy in the third inning before Ramon Laureano tacked on a solo shot in the fourth. The 27-year-old Skubal has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season -- he's given up eight earned runs over 10.1 innings in that span. The left-hander still sports a solid 2.50 ERA on the year with a 0.97 WHIP and 105:18 K:BB across 90 innings. Skubal is lined up for another tough matchup next week at home versus the Phillies. • Takes another loss
Mize (1-5) took the loss Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts across four innings.

Advice: Both of the runs charged to Mize came in the first inning, when he yielded three consecutive hits -- including a triple by Ozzie Albies -- to open up the game. While Mize hasn't found the win column since April 21, Tuesday's start added on to what's been a solid stretch for the 27-year-old. He's surrendered three or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight appearances and owns a 4.43 ERA with a 46:19 K:BB on the year. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:18 am

    • Logan Webb settles for no-decision against Cubs
Logan Webb allowed two runs over seven innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Advice: Webb coughed up a two-run homer to Dansby Swanson in the second inning on Tuesday evening at Wrigley Field, but managed to keep Chicago’s potent lineup off the scoreboard into the late stages of this one. He struck out five and only issued one walk. The 27-year-old righty has completed six frames in eight consecutive starts since May 10. He’ll bring a solid 2.99 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 82/21 K/BB ratio across 99 1/3 innings (16 starts) into a rematch on Monday against the Cubs back at Oracle Park. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:55 am
