    • Managing back issue
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Winn is absent from Wednesday's lineup in Houston due to a lingering back issue, Bally Sports Midwest reports.

Advice: Winn has required some extra days off this season because of a back problem that dates back to spring training. He had to be checked on by the trainer during Monday's game versus the Astros when the injury flared up during an at-bat, but Winn remained in that contest and also played Tuesday, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk and a stolen base. While the injury does not seem to be affecting Winn's performance, the club wants to be proactive with rest. Brandon Crawford is occupying shortstop Wednesday. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

    • Masyn Winn sits for second time in a week
Masyn Winn is being rested for the second time in a week Wednesday against the Astros.

Advice: Unless there’s something going on here that the Cardinals aren’t disclosing, it’s weird that the team has decided the 22-year-old shortstop needs three days off out of the last seven (the team didn’t play last Thursday). Winn went 3-for-3 with a homer last night, pushing him up to .309/.359/.446, and his backup, Brandon Crawford, doesn’t seem to have much to offer at this point. Rotoworld Today, 9:44 am

    • Mashes homer No. 10
De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: He got the Marlins on the board with a solo shot off Ryan Pepiot in the first inning before adding an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh. De La Cruz snapped a 14-game power drought with the performance, a stretch in which he'd hit just .226 (12-for-53) with one RBI. On the season, the 27-year-old is slashing .248/.304/.412 with 10 homers, 27 RBI and 28 runs in 60 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 9:23 am
    • Taking seat Wednesday
Winn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Houston.

Advice: Winn had a big night in Tuesday's loss to the Astros, reaching base four times while hitting a home run and stealing a base. He will receive some rest during Wednesday's matinee, with Brandon Crawford getting a start at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 8:38 am

    • Impressive nine-strikeout effort
Kirby (5-5) got the win over the Athletics on Tuesday, recording nine strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk over five-plus innings.

Advice: The right-hander had his swing-and-miss stuff in prime form for the second consecutive start, one-upping his eight-strikeout tally against the Astros last Wednesday. The two runs on Kirby's ledger came about through relatively innocuous means, with Abraham Toro getting to him with an RBI single in the third and Austin Voth conceding an RBI groundout to inherited runner Shea Langeliers upon entering for Kirby in the sixth. Kirby's last two strikeout-heavy outings have come on the heels of back-to-back starts where he gave up five runs apiece to the Nationals and Orioles, giving him some momentum heading into a projected tussle with the improved Royals at home on Sunday. • Three more hits Tuesday
Machado went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Angels.

Advice: Machado notched his first three-hit game of the year and managed to swipe a base for a second straight game. He drove in the Padres' first run of the game in the third, which makes it four RBI over his last five games. He's been extremely locked in at the plate over the last few weeks, slashing .344/.420/.492 with nine RBI, seven runs and an 8:11 BB:K in 69 plate appearances since May 19. • Completes six frames in loss
Harrison dropped to 4-3 on the season in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

Advice: Harrison worked a pair of clean innings before the Diamondbacks opened up the third with four consecutive hits, leading to three runs, and then tacked on an unearned run in the fourth. Despite giving up some hard hits early, Harrison was able to buckle down and complete six innings for the first time since May 7. He also managed to not walk a batter for the first time since April 26. The 22-year-old has now given up 20 hits over his last 11 innings, though that also comes with a 10:1 K:BB. Harrison will carry a 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 65:22 K:BB into his next start, which projects to fall against Houston early next week. Rotowire.com Today, 6:39 am
    • Kyle Harrison takes loss after quality start
Kyle Harrison gave up four runs — three earned — over six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: Technically, it’s Harrison’s second quality start since the beginning of May. The Giants would have liked a little more from him tonight, but the bullpen was the bigger problem. Harrison is now 4-3 with a 4.18 ERA, though the Giants have gone 9-4 in his starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:51 pm
    • George Kirby strikes out nine in defeating A’s
George Kirby fanned nine while allowing two runs over five innings in the Mariners’ 4-3 win over the A’s on Tuesday.

Advice: This wasn’t Kirby’s smoothest outing, but it was good enough to get him back on the board for the first time in a few weeks. It’s just the second time this season he’s been credited with a victory in an outing in which he’s given up a run. He’s currently 5-5 with a 4.05 ERA and a 74/7 K/BB in 73 1/3 innings.
