    • Lars Nootbaar starting rehab assignment on Friday
Lars Nootbaar (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday with Double-A Springfield.

Advice: Nootbaar told reporters Thursday that he expects to play at least five or six rehab contests before returning to the majors. The 26-year-old corner outfielder has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a moderate oblique strain. He’s been snake-bitten by injuries this season, but remains an impactful fantasy contributor, when healthy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:01 pm

    • Will Brennan to IL with rib cage inflammation
Guardians placed OF Will Brennan on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 25, with rib cage inflammation.

Advice: Brennan heads to the injured list after missing a couple games earlier this week due to a possible oblique issue. He’s been diagnosed with rib cage inflammation, so the hope here is that he isn’t facing a lengthy absence. There should be an official return timetable in the coming days. • Beginning assignment Friday
Nootbaar (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Nootbaar said he expects his rehab assignment to last roughly six games, which would put him in line to return to the active roster July 5 for the beginning of St. Louis' series with the Nationals. The 26-year-old outfielder has spent nearly a month on the injured list after straining his left oblique during a game in late May. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:36 pm

    • To IL with rib cage injury
The Guardians placed Brennan on the 10-day injured list Thursday with rib cage inflammation.

Advice: Brennan last played Monday and evidently must have tweaked his ribs area during that game in Baltimore. He will be eligible to return late next week, but with the severity of the strain not known, it's uncertain how long he'll actually be sidelined. Daniel Schneemann, Gabriel Arias and Jhonkensy Noel could all pick up more at-bats while Brennan is out. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:47 pm

    • Not starting Thursday
Sheets (heel) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Sheets was forced out of Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Dodgers with a bruised left heel and is considered day-to-day. The 28-year-old could end up filling more of a part-time role for the White Sox moving forward in the wake of Eloy Jimenez's recent return from the injured list, so Sheets may not re-enter the lineup for a few more days even if he quickly shakes off the heel injury. • Remains hot Wednesday
Mullins went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 4-2 victory versus the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Mullins broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning with a solo shot to right field. The outfielder finished with his fifth multi-hit effort over his past seven contests, a span in which he's batting .407 (11-for-27) with two homers, four RBI and seven runs. Mullins was hitting .170 at the end of the day June 8 but has ridden a recent hot streak to bring that mark up to a more respectable .214. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:13 pm
    • X-rays on heel negative
X-rays on Sheets' left heel came back negative after he was removed early from Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

Advice: The White Sox are now labeling Sheets' injury as a bruise, and he's considered day-to-day. It's possible the team holds him out for a game or two as a precaution, but he shouldn't be in line for an extended absence. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:48 pm

    • Gavin Sheets (heel) considered day-to-day
Gavin Sheets is considered day-to-day after X-rays on his injured heel came back negative on Friday.

Advice: Sheets was pulled from Wednesday night’s battle against the Dodgers after jamming his left heel while rounding second base after his double. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the White Sox give him a day off on Thursday, but don’t expect the 28-year-old slugger to require any sort of extended absence. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:41 pm

    • Managing injured heel
Sheets was removed from Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to a jammed left heel.

Advice: The severity of Sheets' injury remains unknown, but he is being further evaluated, and the White Sox should offer an update on his status in the near future. The 28-year-old has been heating up at the plate recently, going 8-for-22 in his last six games heading into Wednesday's contest. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:47 pm
