    • Andre Pallante allows five runs, still gets win
Andre Pallante was charged with five runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Giants.

Advice: Pallante drew the starting assignment for Thursday’s contest at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and gave the Cardinals some much-needed length in this outing, working into the sixth inning. He struck out five and also issued three walks. Of the seven hits he allowed, the most costly was a three-run shot to Heliot Ramos in the third inning, which accounted for most of the damage against him. He’ll take the ball on Wednesday against the Braves his next time out. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

    • Ks six in quality start
Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings against the Rays. He struck out six.

Advice: Woods Richardson allowed single runs in the second and third, keeping the Rays at bay as he completed six innings for his fourth quality start of the season. It was also the ninth time in 12 starts that Woods Richardson left with a no-decision. It was the third time in four outings that Woods Richardson struck out six batters, including a couple of big strikeouts to end the fourth and fifth innings, each coming with runners in scoring position to keep the game tied. Woods Richardson has been solid throughout his first full season in the majors, tallying a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 12 starts with 52 strikeouts over 60.2 innings. His next start is scheduled to take place next week when the Twins travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
    • Keaton Winn allows five runs in no-decision
Keaton Winn was blasted for five runs over 2 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Winn took the ball for Thursday’s contest at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and was unable to escape the third inning. He gave up five hits, including a two-run homer to Brendan Donovan in the opening frame. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Wednesday against the Cubs. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

    • Shane Baz strikes out six on Thursday at Triple-A
Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scorless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames. He gave up four hits and also issued three walks. The 25-year-old top pitching prospect has recorded 24 strikeouts over his last three starts since June 8. It’s time. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago
    • Elects free agency
Tinoco elected free agency after being outrighted by the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Tinoco had his contract selected May 23 but allowed nine earned runs across 10 innings and was designated for assignment Sunday. He was more effective with the Rangers in 2023, so he may be able to find a role with another club relatively quickly. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago
    • Allows two runs in no-decision
Littell did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out five.

Advice: Thursday represented a return to form for Littell, who held the Twins to single runs in each of the second and third innings prior to leaving after five innings having tossed 95 pitches. Littell had posted a 7.71 ERA and 2.07 WHIP with four homers allowed across three starts and 14 innings during the month of June, including allowing a season-worst six earned runs in just two innings during his previous start. Although he was touched up for a homer for the seventh-consecutive outing, it was also the first time in five starts he didn't allow at least three earned runs. He'll continue to work on righting the ship during his next start, scheduled to come at home next week when the Mariners make their way to the Trop. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

    • Yankees option Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A
Yankees optioned RHP Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: No surprise here as the Yankees are going to bring up some extra relief depth ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Braves after getting battered for 17 runs during Thursday’s series finale against the division-rival Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 6:32 pm

    • Back to minors
Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: The Yankees' bullpen was forced to cover 6.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Orioles and will need at least one fresh arm for their weekend series against Atlanta. Marinaccio will head back to the minors as a result, though he also surrendered four earned runs across 6.1 innings in his latest stint in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 pm

    • Marlins release veteran reliever Burch Smith
      Marlins released RHP Burch Smith.

Advice: Smith passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and the two sides have agreed to part ways. The 34-year-old journeyman reliever posted a respectable 4.25 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 23/9 K/BB ratio across 29 2/3 innings (25 appearances) this season for Miami. He should be able to latch on somewhere else as extra organizational relief depth. Rotoworld Today, 5:49 pm
