• Mitchell Parker allows three runs in loss to Rangers
Mitchell Parker allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Parker got into trouble in the third inning when he gave up a trio of run-scoring hits, which accounted for all of the damage against him. He struck out five and only issued a pair of walks. The 24-year-old rookie right-hander has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive outings since getting the call to the majors back on April 15, but he’s struggled to work deep into contests. He’ll bring a respectable 2.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 19/4 K/BB ratio across 21 1/3 innings (four starts) into a tough home outing on Wednesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

  • Jorge Matero homers, plates two against Yankees
Jorge Mateo went 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Mateo took Carlos Rodón deep — one of three homers the Orioles hit against the southpaw Thursday — and he now is the proud owner of his first homer of 2024. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Mateo needs to hit to stave off a plethora of quality prospects in Triple-A, and so far so good with a .268/.340/.488 slash across 41 at-bats. Rotoworld Today, 2:05 pm

  • Steven Matz (back) unlikely to make next start
Steven Matz (back) is unlikely to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the White Sox.

Advice: The interesting wrinkle here is that the Cardinals decision to bump up Kyle Gibson and Miles Mikolas creates an opening on Tuesday against the Mets. The most likely candidate to fill that void would be pitching prospect Sem Robberse, who would be taking the ball on regular rest, and has been excellent this season for Triple-A Memphis. It’s a storyline worth monitoring this weekend. Rotoworld Today, 2:00 pm

  • Stallings swats three-run homer against Marlins
Jacob Stallings hit a three-run homer in an extra-inning loss to the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: Stallings took Edward Cabrera deep in the second inning with a pair of runners on. The 34-year-old has his first homer as a member of the Rockies, and it comes against one of his former teams. Stallings hasn’t only received 29 at-bats, but he’s made the most of them with a .345/.429/.517 slash. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm
  • Jesús Sánchez knocks in game-winner in 10th
Jesús Sánchez went 1-for-4 with the hit being a game-winning single in the 10th against the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: With the score tied 7-7, Sánchez went the opposite way to score Luis Arraez to give Miami the victory and their third-consecutive win. So far in 2024 Sánchez has driven in 13 runs over 33 games, and he’s slashing .237/.298/.316. Expect lots of ups and downs for the outfielder throughout the campaign. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Peter Lambert can’t get out of fourth against MIA
Peter Lambert went 3 1/3 innings while allowing four runs in a no-decision against the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: Lambert was fortunate to get a no-decision with the Rockies providing just enough offensive support to keep him from the loss. The 27-year-old allowed five hits with three walks against three strikeouts in a middling — at best — effort against a mediocre Miami lineup. Lambert will not be a recommended option next week against the Giants. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Shaky vs. Marlins
Lambert did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Marlins, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The Marlins got to Lambert quickly, scoring twice in the opening inning before tacking on runs in the third and the fourth. The 27-year-old Lambert's struggled in his two starts this year, allowing 10 runs in 6.1 innings. He's fared better out of the bullpen, however, pinching to a 1.88 ERA over 14.1 innings in relief. Still, the right-hander figures to remain in the rotation while Kyle Freeland (elbow) is sidelined. Lambert's currently scheduled for a home start against the Giants in his next outing. • Surgery not ruled out
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Yoshida might require surgery on his injured left thumb, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was placed on the injured list Wednesday with what has been termed a left thumb strain. Cora noted Thursday that the medical staff is still gathering information regarding the injury before a decision is made on next steps for Yoshida, but it appears surgery is one of the possibilities. More clarity on the designated hitter's status should be available by the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 8:34 am

  • Placed on injured list
The Red Sox placed Yoshida on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left thumb strain, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: MRI results revealed a strain in Yoshida's left thumb after he jammed his hand during Sunday's game against the Cubs, and there is no telling whether or not the 30-year-old outfielder will be able to return when eligible May 10. The newly signed Dominic Smith will take Yoshida's place on the active roster. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:58 pm
