  • Swipes second bag
    Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Astros.

    Advice: Schuemann singled in his first at-bat before swiping his second bag of the season, though he would be left stranded as Oakland failed to generate any offense against a dominant Cristian Javier. The second baseman has now hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) over that stretch with a homer, a double and four RBI.     J.P. Crawford (hand, oblique) didn’t travel with the Mariners for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

    Advice: Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times adds that the Mariners aren’t certain when Crawford will return as he’s dealing with soreness and swelling in his right hand after being hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s rehab contest for Triple-A Tacoma. The 29-year-old shortstop will presumably undergo additional testing and imaging to determine the extent of the injury. There should be an update on his status at some point in the next few days.     Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

    Advice: Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later.     Angels activated INF/OF Luis Rengifo from the 10-day injured list.

    Advice: The Angels tried to keep Rengifo on the active roster, but after he missed five games, they decided to put him on the injured list last Thursday. A week later, he’s returning to the fold and should likely remain an everyday player for the Angels given how banged up their lineup is.     The Angels activated Rengifo (illness) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

    Advice: Rengifo missed the last week and a half with a viral illness which resulted in painful blisters on his feet. He's recovered now, though, and should be back in the lineup when the Angels return to action Friday in Texas against the Rangers.     Jon Berti will start at 3B and bat eighth for the Yankees on Thursday against the Twins.

    Advice: Berti has started four games at third base over the last week, with Oswaldo Cabrera starting two and playing second for another. Berti has gone 6-for-19 (.316) in six games since coming off the IL with two steals; however, Cabrera is 9-for-30 (.300) in 10 games in May with six strikeouts and two walks, so he’s certainly not giving the job up to Berti without a fight.     Vargas went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

    Advice: Batting third against southpaw Garrett Crochet as Nats manager Dave Martinez desperately tried to spark his struggling offense, Vargas didn't make a big impact but was able to steal his third bag of the year, tying his career high. The 32-year-old utility player has been seeing semi-consistent starts in May, batting .294 (5-for-17) in nine games with three doubles, two runs and an RBI. He's already played 10-plus games at both second base and third base in 2024 while also seeing duty in left field (six games) and at shortstop (three games), giving him some fantasy value in deep NL-only formats.
