• Perfect at plate in loss
Haniger went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Haniger took Kansas City closer James McArthur deep in the ninth inning, but it didn't turn into a rally for the Mariners. The homer was Haniger's second in May and sixth of the year, but he's hitting a poor .182 (8-for-44) this month. He started the season well, and he's now slashing .214/.277/.372 with 21 RBI, 17 runs scored and five doubles through 40 contests. Haniger continues to fill a near-everyday role between right field and designated hitter. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Nabs 10th steal
Garcia went 1-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Garcia plated an insurance run with his eighth-inning single, and he swiped second shortly after the hit. The third baseman has two steals over the last three games and 10 thefts on the year. He's hit better in May, going 14-for-55 (.254) over 13 contests, lifting his season slash line to .239/.288/.369 with four home runs, 25 RBI and 20 runs scored over 192 plate appearances. • Flips game around with homer
Velazquez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Mariners starter Logan Gilbert was excellent until the seventh inning, and Velazquez made him pay. The homer was Velazquez's third of the year and his first since April 4. He went just 5-for-55 over a 19-game span from April 14 to May 9, but Velazquez now has a five-game hitting streak. During the streak, he's 6-for-16 (.375). Overall, he's at a .227/.292/.361 slash line with 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base over 37 contests. With fellow corner outfielders MJ Melendez and Hunter Renfroe hitting .183 and .159, respectively, there's room for Velazquez to challenge them if manager Matt Quatraro opts for other players at designated hitter. • Ezequiel Tovar homers, doubles against Padres
Ezequiel Tovar collected his fifth homer and 11th double Tuesday in the Rockies’ 6-3 takedown of the Padres.

Advice: Tovar swings at everything and might have the worst approach of anyone in the majors, but he’s talented enough to be something close to an average hitter anyway. Through 180 plate appearances this year, he’s sporting a .275/.315/.443 line in spite of a 56/8 K/BB ratio. The modest success, and the fact that it’s rewarded by a Rockies team willing to hit him at the top of the lineup, makes it less likely that he’ll ever truly reach his potential. • Mitch Garver absent due to back spasms
Mitch Garver didn’t play Tuesday because of upper back spasms.

Advice: The Mariners declined to announce why Garver was scratched until after the game. It sounds like this is a day-to-day issue, though given that Garver has largely struggled and it might not be a bad things for the Mariners to open up the DH spot for 10 days, a short IL stint could be a possibility. • Battling back spasms
Garver was scratched from Seattle's lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against Kansas City due to upper-back spasms, Daniel Kramer of MLB.comreports.

Advice: The 33-year-old backstop missed a few games in March due to back spasms, though manager Scott Servais said Garver's current injury is unrelated to his previous issue. No timeline was given for his return, but it's possible the M's hold him out for a game or two in order to properly recover. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

  • Nelson Velázquez hits three-run homer to lead K.C.
Nelson Velázquez hit a three-run homer off Logan Gilbert in the seventh to lead the Royals to a 4-2 win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Advice: Velázquez struck out in his other three plate appearances tonight, but the homer was huge, as Gilbert was on the verge of getting through seven scoreless frames. It was just Velázquez’s third homer in 130 plate appearances this season. He had 14 in 147 plate appearances after arriving from the Cubs in a trade last summer. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago
  • Mitch Haniger goes 3-for-3, homers versus Royals
Mitch Haniger finished 3-for-3 with a homer and a walk against the Royals on Tuesday.

Advice: In a late change, Haniger got to DH tonight, as Mitch Garver was scratched. Really, Haniger should be DHing fairly regularly at this point, but that’s pretty much impossible as a result of the Garver signing. There’s also the argument that Haniger shouldn’t be playing much at all, given his .214/.277/.372 line and poor defense in right field. He came through in this one, though. • Hitless in return
Gelof (oblique) went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Astros.

Advice: Gelof missed just under three weeks with an oblique strain. The second baseman returned to the No. 6 spot in the lineup, which is where he was at just before the injury after starting the year batting second. He's slashing a poor .188/.250/.323 with three home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs scored and four stolen bases over 25 contests this season. Gelof showed promise with 14 homers and an .841 OPS over 69 games in 2023, but he's still looking to get into a rhythm this year. Rotowire.com Today, 8:42 pm
