    • Athletics designate Aledmys Díaz for assignment
Athletics designated INF Aledmys Díaz for assignment.

Advice: Díaz has been jettisoned from Oakland’s roster to make room for younger players to come up and get an opportunity moving forward. The 33-year-old veteran infielder signed a two-year, $14.5 million deal prior to last year and finishes his tenure in Oakland with a disastrous .585 OPS with four homers and one steal in 374 plate appearances over 121 games. • Jettisoned by Oakland
The Athletics designated Diaz for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Diaz has gone just 3-for-29 in 12 games with the A's this season, and his poor performance has now officially caused him to lose his 40-man roster spot. The 33-year-old owns just a .621 OPS over 32 plate appearances in the minors this season, making it likely he passes through waivers unclaimed. Brett Harris was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:14 pm

    • Returns to bench role
Kiermaier is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Kiermaier had started both of the Blue Jays' final two games of the weekend series with the Yankees and six of the last eight contests overall, but he looks set to fill more of a fourth-outfielder role moving forward. His recent uptick in playing time was due in part to Daulton Varsho missing out on three straight starts due to a back injury, but Varsho returned to action Thursday. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:21 am
    • At least one more rehab game
Thomas (hamstring) will remain with Triple-A Reno and play another game Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After playing Tuesday, the team will reassess whether Thomas is ready to be activated. He sustained the injury during the fourth game of the season and has missed three months because of it. Thomas was originally anticipated to return in early May, but his rehab was paused twice since then. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:55 am
    • Being evaluated for activation
The Diamondbacks will assess Sunday whether Thomas (hamstring) is ready to be activated from the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Thomas played in rehab games Friday and Saturday for Triple-A Reno. He started in center field and played nine innings on both occasions. The outfielder has a combined 32 plate appearances while on his rehab assignment and is hitting .310/.344/.483 between stops with Reno and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. • Handed loss Saturday
Lorenzen (4-4) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Orioles.

Advice: Lorenzen gave up a solo home run to Anthony Santander and a grand slam to Heston Kjerstad. This outing ended a few impressive stretches for Lorenzen -- it was the first time in nine starts he allowed more than three runs, and it also marked the first time in his last four appearances that he issued multiple walks. Given his success this year (3.40 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 58:35 K:BB over 82 innings across 14 starts), it's safe to assume this was just a blip against a tough opponent. He'll look to rebound in his next outing, which is projected to be at home versus the Rays. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:12 pm

    • Michael Lorenzen gives up grand slam in loss to O’s
Michael Lorenzen went five innings while allowing five runs in a loss to the Orioles on Saturday.

Advice: Lorenzen gave up two homers in the loss, and one of those was a grand slam to Heston Kjerstad. The other was a solo shot, as you could probably guess if you are decent at math. The right-hander clearly didn’t have his best command, as he gave up the two roundtrippers and also issued four walks against three strikeouts. Lorenzen still has a solid 3.40 ERA, and gets a chance to bounce back against the Rays next weekend. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:15 pm

    • Resting versus LHP
Suwinski isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: With left-handed starter Max Fried set to toe the slab for Atlanta, Suwinski will remain in the dugout for the beginning of Saturday's contest. Michael Taylor will fill the void in center field, batting ninth. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:59 am

    • Idle Saturday
McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

Advice: McNeil will get a day off Saturday after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win. Jose Iglesias will start at second base instead and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:46 am
