    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Plesac to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Advice: Plesac has struggled in three starts with the Angels this season, giving up 11 runs in 12 innings while striking out five batters and walking seven. He'll return to Salt Lake in an effort to get back on track, but he hasn't been much better in the minors with a 5.42 ERA through 13 starts with the Bees. Andrew Wantz will come up from Triple-A to fill the vacancy in Los Angeles' pitching staff. Rotowire.com Today, 2:48 pm

    • Jonathan Cannon surrenders three runs in no-decision
Jonathan Cannon allowed three runs with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Saturday.

Advice: Cannon served up a solo homer to Brendan Rodgers in the second inning, then a two run shot to Nolan Jones in the fifth. He recorded the first two outs in the sixth before a base hit would end his day. He struck out three. The 23-year-old right-hander will take a 4.62 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 32/7 K/BB ratio across 39 innings into a matchup against the Marlins in Miami on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 1:52 pm

    • Tyler Mahle (elbow) ready for rehab assignment
Tyler Mahle (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will likely need at least three starts in the minor leagues before he’s an option to join the Rangers’ rotation. If all goes according to plan, Mahle could be ready to make his 2024 season debut shortly after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 1:41 pm

    • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Sandoval (elbow) underwent successful surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow Wednesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sandoval was diagnosed with a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow after departing early from his start against the Dodgers on June 21. The left-hander is expected to miss at least one year of action due to the injury. Per Sam Blum of The Athletic, Sandoval had an internal brace procedure as part of his surgery. • Set to return next week
Soriano (abdomen) is expected to start one of the Angels' contests in Oakland during a three-game series that begins July 2, per MLB.com.

Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 with an infection in his abdomen, and the team believes he will be ready to return after the minimum 15-day stay. Since the move to the injured list was retroactive to June 17, that means the right-hander can be activated as soon as July 2. Soriano has been throwing from 120 feet as well as playing long toss in preparation for a return. Rotowire.com Today, 11:54 am

    • Slated for rehab start Tuesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Mata (shoulder) felt good after his rehab start Thursday, and the right-hander will start again for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: In his first rehab outing for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Mata allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two over 2.2 frames. He opened the season on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, but he has been dealing with lat and shoulder soreness since May. Mata is out of minor-league options, and the 25-year-old right-hander is expected to work as a reliever out of Boston's bullpen once his rehab program is complete. Rotowire.com Today, 10:23 am
