    • Miller blows first save of the season Thursday
      Mason Miller blew the save against the Rays on Thursday.



      Advice: Miller entered the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead and allowed a solo home run to Jose Siri. It was his first blown save of the season. Miller had basically been untouchable all season as he converted his first 11 saves. His ERA is now 2.08 on the year. Miller remains one of the most dominant relievers in all of baseball and would likely remain in a closing role if traded to a contender later this year.

    • Locks down 11th save
      Miller gave up a hit and a walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 11th save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Rays.

      Advice: The flamethrowing righty continues to dominate. Miller has yet to blow a save in 2024, and his 52.8 percent strikeout rate is the highest in the majors among pitchers who have worked at least 20 innings. Trade rumors are swirling around him, not surprising given the state of the Oakland franchise, but Miller would likely be the best closing option for any team that acquired him.     • Notches first save
      Treinen recorded his first save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets, striking out two in a perfect 10th inning.

      Advice: Daniel Hudson pitched the ninth inning and nearly gave the game away, loading the bases with one out before getting two popups to escape the jam. That left Treinen to handle closing duties when the Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the 10th. The oft-injured right-hander has looked very good since coming off the IL in early May, giving up zero runs and only three hits over 7.2 innings with an 11:1 K:BB. Treinen's picked up three holds and a win in eight appearances in addition to Tuesday's save, and even with Evan Phillips (hamstring) set to return later this week, he seems to have locked down a spot in the Dodgers' high-leverage crew.       Mason Miller earned a save by preserving a 3-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday.

      Advice: Miller, who hadn’t pitched in two days, didn’t make it easy on himself. After getting the first two batters out, he allowed a single to Yandy Diaz and walked Brandon Lowe to bring the tying run to the plate before striking out Isaac Paredes to end the game. It was his 11th save of the year to go along with a 1.88 ERA. He has emerged as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball and with the A’s proving to be more competitive than many expected, Miller should easily eclipse the 20-save mark this year if he can stay healthy.     • Blake Treinen records first save since 2021
      Blake Treinen tossed a perfect 10th inning on Tuesday against the Mets to record his first save of the season.

      Advice: Treinen was summoned to protect a three-run lead in extra innings during the opening contest of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Citi Field and needed just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to hurl a flawless frame. He struck out Brett Baty, got Tomás Nido to fly out and fanned Francisco Lindor to preserve the victory. It was his first save in the majors since the 2021 campaign.     • Collects third win
      Hudson (3-0) picked up the win Monday against the Cubs. He pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, allowing one hit and no walks.

      Advice: Hudson entered the seventh after Brewers starter Robert Gasser allowed consecutive singles to Seiya Suzuki and Cody Bellinger to begin the inning. The lefty reliever worked himself out of the jam, fanning two batters and inducing one popup. Hudson has been a stalwart in the Milwaukee bullpen, becoming manager Pat Murphy's most dependable southpaw, firing a 0.59 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 36:7 K:BB over 30.1 innings this season.     • Extends strikeout streak
      Estrada (2-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Sunday, striking out all five batters he faced.

      Advice: Estrada threw 20 of 26 pitches for strikes and got all five of his punchouts on swinging strikes. The right-handed reliever has now struck out each of the last 10 batters he's faced swinging to set a Padres record.       Foley was charged with the blown save Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing three earned runs on two hits and one walk in 0.2 innings of work.

      Advice: The right-hander was called upon with one out in the eighth inning and two runners on base. He allowed a single and a walk before Daulton Varsho took him deep to give the Blue Jays a two run lead. Despite the rocky appearance, Foley should remain the Tigers' closer for the time being.     • Alexis Díaz fans two to earn 10th save
      Alexis Díaz struck out both batters he faced for a save Sunday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: The Reds were up 4-0 to start the ninth, so Díaz didn’t enter then. Instead, he came in after Carson Spiers allowed Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman to reach with one out, creating the save opportunity. Díaz then retired Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages to end the game.
