    • Jake Irvin strikes out five in victory over Tigers
      Jake Irvin was terrific in Wednesday’s victory over the Tigers, allowing just one run on six hits over six stellar frames.

      Advice: The 27-year-old hurler piled up five strikeouts on the night while allowing only one base on balls. The lone tally against him in this one came on a solo blast off the bat of Matt Vierling in the opening inning. Aside from that, he dominated the rest of the night. Irvin generated eight swings and misses on 98 pitches in the ballgame, registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 3.00 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 69/15 K/BB ratio (81 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:40 pm
       
    • Reese Olson hit hard again in loss to Nationals
      Reese Olson was hit hard again in Wednesday’s loss to the Nationals, surrendering four runs (five earned) on 10 hits in his five-plus innings of work.

      Advice: The 24-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. CJ Abrams was a thorn in his side in this one, smacking a solo homer in the third inning and an RBI double as part of a three-run uprising in the fifth. He got 13 swings and misses on 91 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 22 percent. It’s the third straight rough outing for Olson who has seen his ERA climb from 1.92 to 3.68. He’ll attempt to right the ship when he does battle against the Braves in Atlanta on Monday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:39 pm

    • Stuck with loss in quality start
      Crawford (2-6) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings as the Red Sox fell 4-1 to the Phillies. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The right-hander got very little support from his offense or defense, but the difference in the game was the two solo shots Crawford served up to Kyle Schwarber. The quality start was Crawford's sixth of the season, but his first in over a month, while the eight Ks were a season high. Since beating the Giants on May 1, he's gone 0-5 in seven starts with a 5.40 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB in 40 innings. Crawford will try to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:25 am
       
    • Kutter Crawford bounces back in loss to Phillies
      Kutter Crawford allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

      Advice: Crawford had allowed 15 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts, so giving up just two tonight is a huge step in the right direction. He also struck out eight and walked just one while posting a 28 percent whiff rate and a 36 percent CSW. Crawford was regularly in the zone with his fastball and cutter and posted four whiffs on seven swings with his splitter. It’s the kind of effort that should quiet some concerns about the 28-year-old, who will now take a 3.47 ERA into perhaps a tougher outing against the Yankees on Sunday.     • Michael Kopech blows three-run lead in eighth
      Michael Kopech gave up three runs in the eighth to take a blown save Monday in the loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: Look, we’re not totally blaming Pedro Grifol for tonight’s loss, but that stuff like this keeps happening to the White Sox hardly seems like a coincidence. Grifol left his starter in to begin the eighth in a 4-0 game tonight, only to pull him immediately after a leadoff homer. Kopech, the White Sox’s primary closer, then came in with no outs in the eighth and struggled in retiring just two of the eight batters he faced. That made it a tie game going into the ninth, and Jordan Leasure, the top fallback to Kopech, wound up surrendering a walkoff grand slam, of all things. Everything is a disaster with the White Sox now, and while Kopech still offers value for teams desperate for saves, it’s hard to argue for him in shallow leagues, especially with the way Grifol is treating him.     • Labors through scoreless frame
      Kopech allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: Kopech was called upon to protect a five-run lead. He did so successfully, though he allowed three hitters to reach base -- he hit a batter in addition to the walk and hit he surrendered -- and required 33 pitches to retire the side. Though it was shaky, the outing was still positive for Kopech as he had allowed at least one run in three of his last four appearances entering Saturday. Rotowire.com Jun 8, 9:45 pm

      Jake Irvin threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 2-1 victory over the Braves on Friday.



      Advice: Irvin gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four. The win was his fourth of the season. Irvin has allowed more than two earned runs in only one of his last eight starts. His ERA is down to 3.12 and he has a SO:BB of 64:14 in 75 innings. Irvin has been consistently good this season and it’s mostly supported by a 3.56 xFIP.     • Implodes vs. Brewers
      Olson (1-7) took the loss Friday against Milwaukee, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: It was a brutal night for Olson, who was tagged for a career-high eight runs. The 24-year-old right-hander has now allowed 13 runs over 9.1 innings in his last two outings after holding opponents to one earned run or fewer in each of his previous six outings. Overall, Olson sports a 3.43 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB across 65.2 innings. Olson had a 1.92 ERA at the end of May, but now his ERA is 3.43 on the season. He allowed two home runs against the Red Sox in his last start, but didn’t allow any home runs to the Brewers. Olson did allow three doubles and a triple to Milwaukee. He struck out three in the first inning, but then allowed five runs in the second inning and it was downhill from there.
