    • Expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that he expects Turnbull (lat) to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Turnbull suffered a right lat strain in his first start back in the Phillies' rotation Wednesday and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Given the pitcher's lengthy injury history, the team will proceed with extra caution. Michael Mercado will slide into the Philadelphia rotation for now, at least until Taijuan Walker (finger) is ready. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Phillies place Spencer Turnbull on IL
Phillies placed RHP Spencer Turnbull on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull was removed from his start on Wednesday after pitching just three innings; however, the right-hander doesn’t think the injury is anything serious. He wanted to tell the Phillies as soon as he felt anything to make sure he didn’t aggravate the soreness he was feeling. There is no timeline yet for his recovery, but Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Michael Mercado would be the number five starter if Turnbull had to miss time. For now, reliever Yunior Marte was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Turnbull’s spot on the roster. Rotoworld Today, 12:15 pm

    • Headed to IL with strained lat
The Phillies placed Turnbull (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull had to depart Wednesday's start against the Tigers with right shoulder soreness. While the pitcher downplayed the injury after the game, subsequent testing revealed a lat strain. It's not yet clear how much time Turnbull might miss, but certainly it's the type of injury that could cost the right-hander several weeks. With Taijuan Walker (finger) also still out for a while, Michael Mercado could enter the Phillies' rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 12:01 pm

    • Anthony Santander getting a day off on Thursday
Anthony Santander will get a day off on Thursday with Colton Cowser starting in left field and batting eighth against the Rangers.

Advice: Santander is on fire in June with 12 home runs in 25 games. He’ll rest, and we’ll get to see Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad in the lineup at the same time. Rotoworld Today, 11:36 am

    • Idle Thursday
Santander isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Santander will get a breather Thursday after going 1-for-11 with a homer and two RBI during Baltimore's previous series against the Guardians. Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Heston Kjerstad will make up the Orioles' outfield while Santander sits. Rotowire.com Today, 11:35 am

    • Struggles again in rehab start
Kremer (triceps) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in his third rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He struck out five batters.

Advice: Kremer got his pitch count up to 75 and looks ready to return from the 15-day injured list from a workload standpoint, but it's unclear if Baltimore is keen on slotting him back into the rotation while he's largely struggled during the minor-league assignment. The right-hander has posted an 11.42 ERA and 9:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings across his three starts. He's been out since late May with a right triceps strain. Rotowire.com Today, 10:52 am

    • Dean Kremer struggles in rehab start
Dean Kremer allowed four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Advice: It’s another poor rehab start for Kremer, who now has an 11.42 ERA during his rehab assignment. He did strike out five while throwing 75 pitches, so it’s possible he could be up to 80-90 pitches in his next outing. Whether the Orioles decide that will come at Triple-A or in the majors is anybody’s guess right now. Rotoworld Today, 10:42 am

    • Resting against lefty
Wisely is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Wisely will take a seat for the second time during the four-game series with the Cubs while Chicago sends another lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill. Nick Ahmed will fill in for Wisely at shortstop, while outfielder Austin Slater replaces Wisely atop the batting order. Rotowire.com Today, 10:17 am

    • Sent back to Triple-A
Atlanta optioned Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Advice: As expected, Elder was returned to the minors after he was designated as Atlanta's 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals. He picked up the start in the second game and was dealt a loss after giving up two earned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four over six innings. Rotowire.com Today, 8:26 am
