      Jon Gray tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Guardians on Wednesday.

      Advice: Gray’s outstanding run continued on Wednesday with another stellar outing. He held the Guardians scoreless over 6 1/3 frames, stranding four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. After giving up five runs in his first start, Gray has not allowed more than two runs in each of his last eight outings. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 52/14 K/BB ratio across 52 innings. Gray will take on the Phillies on the road next Wednesday. Kikuchi had gone at least six innings in his previous six starts -- he's 2-3 on the year with a 2.60 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 55:10 K:BB across 52 innings.       Advice: The Jays might have preferred more length from Kikuchi today, though going to the pen early didn’t hurt them at all; the middle-relief corps pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings before Jordan Romano blew the game in the ninth.       Kikuchi is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Orioles in Baltimore, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: After Tuesday's game was postponed, the Blue Jays hadn't initially named a starter for Wednesday's series finale. Rather than pushing Chris Bassitt back a day in the pitching schedule after he had been in line to take the hill Tuesday, the Blue Jays will instead move up Kikuchi and have him take the hill Wednesday on his normal four days' rest.     • Eight Ks in no-decision
      Pivetta came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander generated an impressive 32 called or swinging strikes among his 81 pitches, but both runs off Pivetta came on solo shots by Josh Lowe and Randy Arozarena, with the latter chasing him from the game one out short of his second quality start of the season. Pivetta has served up five homers in two starts since coming off the IL, a worrisome trend, but he'll carry a 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 20.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.       Ross (2-4) picked up the win Tuesday against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk across five innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Ross got a tally in the win column for the first time since April 9, putting together a spotless day outside of a two-run homer by Nick Gonzales in the fourth. Although the 31-year-old hasn't been outstanding in 2024, he's been a reliable arm for a Brewers rotation that has been plagued by injuries. He's lasted at least five innings in six of his eight starts and has surrendered three or fewer runs six times as well.     • Nick Pivetta bounces back with solid effort vs TB
      Nick Pivetta allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays.

      Advice: Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts.
