Matt Waldron knuckles his way to third win
Matt Waldron struck out eight over seven innings Tuesday in the Padres’ 4-0 shutout of the Marlins.
Advice: He moved to 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA. Waldron threw his knuckleball 27% of the time last season and was at 36% percent this season coming into the night. Against the Marlins, though, he used it a career-high 55% of the time and induced 11 of his 15 missed swings on the night. We’re still not overly impressed by the pitch, but the league is awfully unfamiliar at dealing with knuckleballs these days. He’s probably better off continuing to focus on it, especially since the rest of his arsenal is pretty unremarkable.
