      Advice: Entering a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh, Puk appeared to have gotten out of the inning when he coaxed a grounder from Fernando Tatis for a potential double play, but Tim Anderson couldn't come up with the ball -- the first of two errors in the frame for the Marlins' shortstop.       Scott picked up the save Sunday in a 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, throwing a perfect ninth while striking out a batter.

      Advice: Scott faced no trouble from the Diamondback hitters Sunday. He sent them down in order on 15 pitches and struck out Eugenio Suarez to end the game. Scott has not allowed an earned run since April 14 and finished May with three wins, three saves and a hold in nine appearances.       Gray (7-2) got the win over the Cubs on Sunday, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and walking two. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Gray was as sharp as ever, needing 74 pitches to cruise through five innings of work. The 34-year-old registered an impressive 14 whiffs on the night, and the sweeper was his put-away pitch, accounting for eight of the 14 whiffs. Gray is now fourth in the majors with seven wins and has seven starts allowing two runs or less.       Sonny Gray picked up his seventh victory of the season on Sunday night, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks over five shutout innings against the Cubs.

      Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander punched out eight batters on the evening. He got 14 whiffs on just 74 pitches on the night — eight of those on his sweeper alone — while registering an elite CSW of 35 percent. Gray has been as outstanding as ever in his first season with the Cardinals, posting a 7-2 record, 2.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 67/12 K/BB ratio across 52 innings of work through his first nine starts.     • Tanner Scott slams door on Diamondbacks in ninth
      Tanner Scott slammed the door on the Diamondbacks in the ninth inning on Sunday, working a scoreless frame to protect a two-run lead and earn his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: Scott made it look awfully easy in this one, getting Randal Grichuk on a pop up to third base, Gabriel Moreno on a ground ball to shortstop and Eugenio Suarez on strikes to end it. The 29-year-old southpaw needed just 15 pitches (10 strikes) to get the job done. He now boasts a 1.64 ERA to go along with his seven saves on the season. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:51 pm

      Doval gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning Friday to record his ninth save of the season in an 8-7 win over the Mets.

      Advice: The Giants scored six of their runs in the eighth and ninth innings to create the save chance, but Doval very nearly squandered it following a leadoff double by pinch hitter DJ Stewart and a fielding error by Marco Luciano. It was the first earned run the right-hander has allowed since May 8 at Coors Field, and on the season Doval carries a 3.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB through 20.2 innings while converting nine of 10 save opportunities.       Paxton allowed five runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during the Dodgers' loss to the Reds.

      Advice: Paxton got off to a rough start by yielding a three-run shot to Spencer Steer in the first inning. The Reds's bats then went quiet until a six-run fifth inning. Paxton was charged with two of those as he gave up a season-high five runs during his shortest outing of the year. The veteran southpaw saw his ERA jump from 2.84 to 3.49 through 49 frames.       James Paxton allowed five earned runs in 4 ⅔ to the Reds on Friday. He walked four and struck out four.

      Advice: It’s a marvel Paxton’s ERA remains a respectable 3.49 despite the same exact number of walks and strikeouts through nine starts. The five wins are nice and a byproduct of pitching for the Dodgers, but the bottom can and will fall out from under Paxton at any moment if he can’t strike more batters out. Rotoworld Friday, 7:53 pm

    • Camilo Doval hangs on for ninth save
      Camilo Doval worked around two hits and an error to earn the save on Friday over the Mets. He struck out one.

      Advice: This was a treacherous ninth inning for Doval. The Mets rallied on him and then Marco Luciano butchered a tailor-made double play that would’ve ended the game. Then he intentionally walked Brandon Nimmo before punching out J.D. Martinez with a runner on third and one out. Then Matt Chapman made a herculean bare-handed play to end the game.
