    • Drops second straight start
Rodriguez (0-2) took the loss against the Angels on Monday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings.

Advice: Rodriguez's second big-league outing went about as poorly as his first -- he gave up two fewer hits but twice as many earned runs while failing to complete five frames. The right-hander did make it through two innings unscathed but was stung by a three-run third before serving up a two-run homer in the fourth. Rodriguez has given up six earned runs across 8.1 frames over his two starts, and he could be pushed back to the minors if Jakob Junis (shoulder) returns to the big club this week, as expected. • Earns win in team debut
Plesac (1-0) earned the win over Milwaukee on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one batter over six innings.

Advice: Plesac was called upon for an emergency start after projected starter Jose Soriano was unable to pitch due to an abdominal issue. Plesac did quite well considering the circumstances, squeaking by with a quality start and a victory in his first game as an Angel. The former Guardian did give up two homers and notched just one punchout, with the latter number serving as a reminder of one of Plesac's biggest flaws -- he's never never posted higher than a 6.8 K/9 in a full big-league season. If Soriano misses additional time, Plesac could get at least one more turn in the rotation, though he isn't likely to be a popular waiver-wire target in fantasy circles. • Racks up three hits from atop order
Ohtani went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk Monday in a 9-5 victory versus the Rockies.

Advice: With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss several weeks, Ohtani could see most of his work out of the leadoff spot -- he's now slotted in there for both games that Betts has missed so far this season. Ohtani certainly possesses qualities of a leadoff man with a .314 average, .388 OBP and 16 thefts on the campaign, though his power far exceeds what is usually expected from a batter in that role. Ohtani could lose some RBI opportunities with Betts not hitting ahead of him for the foreseeable future, but the Japanese superstar is more than capable of knocking himself in and should continue to get opportunities to score with Will Smith and Freddie Freeman batting behind him. • Defeated by Dodgers on Monday
Quantrill (6-5) took the loss against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

Advice: Quantrill came into the contest having tossed back-to-back scoreless starts, but he wasn't able to maintain that level of sharpness Monday. The right-hander fell behind 3-0 through two frames, and though he held Los Angeles scoreless for the remainder of his outing, he didn't get the run support necessary to be taken off the hook for the loss. Quantrill has had a few poor appearances this season but has generally been a positive addition to the Rockies' rotation, recording a 3.43 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 59:33 K:BB through 84 innings. • Snags win Monday
Miller (2-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings, earning the win Monday over the Cubs. He did not record a strikeout.

Advice: Miller allowed an inherited runner to score in the seventh inning on a Seiya Suzuki double, and Ian Happ followed that up with a three-run blast. That would have left Miller in line for the loss, but he pitched a scoreless eighth, and the Giants' offense rallied for the lead in the ninth. The southpaw has allowed six runs (four earned) over his last four appearances, one of which was an opener assignment Sunday versus the Angels. He's at a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB with 10 holds and three blown saves over 34 innings. Miller is a versatile reliever, though his grip on a part-time setup role was tenuous even before his recent struggles. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:13 pm

    • Zach Plesac picks up victory in return to majors
Zach Plesac delivered a quality start in his return to the majors Monday, yielding three runs in six innings in a victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Plesac, an emergency starter because of José Soriano’s abdominal issue, succeeded while averaging just 89.9 mph with his fastball, striking out only one batter and giving up two homers tonight. The Angels might try to make it happen again, but fantasy leaguers should stay far away. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:01 pm

    • Returning to mound
Anderson (elbow) will pitch in a Florida Complex League game Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Anderson has been working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2023 and Tuesday's outing will be his first in the recovery process. The right-hander will likely need to build up his workload over a series of weeks, including a multi-start rehab assignment before he'd be able to be activated from the minor-league 60-day injured list, but Tuesday is a welcomed sign nonetheless. • Hurls quality start Monday
Garrett struck out six and allowed one run on five hits and no walks over six innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Monday.

Advice: Garrett served up a solo homer to Mike Siani in the fifth that turned out to be his only mistake in an otherwise stellar showing. The left-hander didn't issue a walk in his six innings of work, making it the fourth time in his seven starts this season that he didn't allow a free pass. The 26-year-old has been inconsistent this season, as he has allowed 22 runs in four of his starts but has given up just two runs in his other three appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:20 pm
    • Wild but effective Monday
Hicks allowed four hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.

Advice: Hicks recently battled an illness but was able to take his regular turn in the rotation Monday. He threw only 48 of 87 pitches for strikes and tied a season high in issuing four free passes, but he was able to work around constant traffic on the basepaths to finish with five scoreless frames. It was the first time Hicks has held an opponent scoreless since his season debut against San Diego on March 30, though he's been quite reliable in yielding three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 15 outings. The right-hander holds a 2.82 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 68:28 K:BB through 76.2 innings on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:18 pm
