      Advice: Arenado played all 18 innings Wednesday at third base in his return from a left forearm injury. He didn't make much of an impact at the plate, but it's encouraging to see the 33-year-old play both halves of the twin bill. He's down to a .254/.310/.364 slash line with six home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base over 73 contests this year. The Cardinals have occasionally used Brandon Crawford and Brendan Donovan at the hot corner, and they could continue to be an option there if Arenado is out of the lineup or limited to designated hitter at any point in the future, as his forearm issue is believed to be a lingering one.       Lopez (6-2) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings to earn the win in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.

      Advice: By his lofty standards this season, this wasn't a great performance for Lopez, but it was still enough for his third straight win. He hadn't allowed a run over his last two starts, and he's walked multiple batters just twice in his last seven outings. The right-hander is now at a 1.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 81:27 K:BB through 79.1 innings over 14 starts in 2024. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Giants.       Reynaldo López defeated the Cardinals by allowing two runs in five innings in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

      Advice: López certainly wasn’t at his sharpest today, but the Cardinals came away with just one run each time they loaded the bases against him. The Braves had bullpen help ready to go the latter time, when Brendon Donovan was up with two outs in the fifth.       William Contreras went 0-for-5 on Wednesday, dropping his OPS back under .800.

      Advice: Contreras has not been getting results for a good month now, but things might be starting to turn around some. He had doubles on both Monday and Tuesday.       Arenado (forearm) will start at third base and bat sixth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

      Advice: Arenado had been set to return Tuesday from a left forearm injury before that game was rained out, but he'll remain in the lineup for the makeup game. The sixth spot in the batting order represents the lowest that Arenado has slotted in his four seasons with the Cardinals.     • Fades late in Tuesday's win
      Keller (9-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's 9-5 victory over the Reds, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: An Oneil Cruz error and a hit by pitch helped load the bases in the third inning, but Keller escaped the jam by striking out Jeimer Candelario and Spencer Steer. The right-hander seemed to run out of gas after that, eventually getting tagged for three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth as he fell short of his 10th quality start of the season. Keller has still allowed more than three earned runs only once in nine outings since the beginning of May, going 7-1 over that stretch with a 1.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 52:12 K:BB through 58.1 innings.       Advice: Steer's been locked in of late, going 11-for-35 with eight RBI over the last nine contests. He began the season as the team's primary left fielder but has played a lot at first base since Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) landed on the injured list in May. With news that Encarnacion-Strand opted for surgery that likely spells the end of his season, Steer is in line to become the club's primary first baseman.
