    • Idle against lefty
Merrill is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Merrill will watch from the bench as lefty Cole Ragans gets the start for Kansas City. Jose Azocar will fill in for Merrill in center field. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:40 am

    • Receiving breather Saturday
McCormick is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Twins.

Advice: McCormick will head to the bench after he went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Friday's 6-1 loss to Minnesota. Mauricio Dubon will take over in left field and bat seventh Saturday. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:14 am

    • Goes deep again Friday
Happ went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and three total RBI in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Happ did his best to keep the Cubs in the game, launching his sixth home run of the season in the second inning, then walking home a run with the bases loaded in the fifth. The outfielder has gone deep four times over his last six games, and he has a robust 1.184 OPS during the stretch. Happ's overall numbers don't look as good, but he's worth riding with while he's hot. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:56 am

    • Jasson Domínguez homers again Friday at Double-A
Yankees OF prospect Jasson Domínguez (elbow) went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and also stole a base on Friday in a minor league rehab game for Double-A Somerset.

Advice: Domínguez has been sizzling-hot at the plate on his rehab assignment with a stratospheric .977 OPS in 12 games between Low-A Tampa and Double-A Somerset. He’s homered three times in his last five contests. It’s unclear how the Yankees plan to proceed once the 21-year-old center fielder is ready to return to New York, but it’s looking like he’s going to force his way into their immediate plans if he keeps tearing the cover off the ball in the minors. • Chas McCormick strikes out three times
Chas McCormick fanned all three times he was up Friday versus the Twins.

Advice: The Astros have decided that José Abreu’s pre-2023 track record matters more than McCormick’s impressive 2023 output and have thus started McCormick just twice in the last six games. We think that’s probably the wrong call, but at the same time, McCormick has not, in any way, resembled the threat he was last year. We still think the Astros should give him a few weeks of regular playing time to see if he can bounce back, but we’re not especially optimistic that he would take advantage of said opportunity. • Ian Happ hits rare opposite-field homer in loss
Ian Happ had a two-run homer and a bases-loaded walk Friday to supply three of the Cubs’ four runs against the Reds.

Advice: Happ’s 364-foot homer, hit as a left-hander to the most generous part of Wrigley in left-center, was his first to the opposite field since 2022. He has four homers in six games after totaling just two in 47 games to start the year. Rotoworld Friday, 2:40 pm

    • Sitting Thursday
McCormick isn't in the Astros' lineup for Thursday's game against Seattle, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: McCormick had sat out three games in a row before returning to Houston's lineup Wednesday, but an 0-for-4 performance will put him back on the bench for Thursday's series finale. Yordan Alvarez, Jake Meyers and Mauricio Dubon will start across the outfield while McCormick sits. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:37 am

    • Goes deep in loss
Happ went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and two total RBI in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Happ is 5-for-15 over his last four games, and three of those hits have left the yard. The outfielder had only two home runs across 47 games before this recent hot streak, but he blasted 20 or more long balls in two of the last three seasons, so it wouldn't be surprising to see his power production continue to trend upward. • Ian Happ goes yard in loss to Brewers
Ian Happ went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Advice: Happ took Bryse Wilson deep to right field for a solo homer in the second inning to put the Cubs on the board. He then led off the fourth with a base hit and scored on a groundout before bringing a run in with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. The 29-year-old outfielder is slashing .226/.329/.376 with five homers, 28 runs scored, and two steals across 216 plate appearances. His underlying stats have all nearly matched his 2023 season with the exception of his strikeout rate, which is up to 28 percent after posting a 22 percent mark last season.
