    • Asymptomatic but still shut down
Weathers (finger) is asymptomatic but has yet to resume a throwing program, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The left-hander has been out since early June with a left index finger strain. Weathers will be reevaluated early next week, so while he is feeling better, it appears he won't be cleared to throw for at least another week. He'll need to ramp things back up at that point, so a return before the end of June looks to be out of the question. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

    • Designated for assignment
The Angels designated Suarez for assignment Monday.

Advice: Suarez looked like he was going to be a solid mid-rotation starter for the Angels when he posted a 3.86 ERA and 188:69 K:BB over 207.1 innings from 2021-22. It's been tough sledding since then, though, with an 8.22 ERA over 29 appearances (eight starts). He also missed a large chunk of 2023 with shoulder problems. Still, as a 26-year-old that's shown promise in the past, there might be interest in Suarez via trade or waivers. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago

    • Angels bring Zach Plesac back to majors
Angels selected the contract of RHP Zach Plesac from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Plesac’s 5.42 ERA and 51/26 K/BB ratio in 74 2/3 innings for Salt Lake don’t bode well for a successful return to the majors here. Still, he can eat innings, and the Angels might have some need for that this week. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Angels designate José Suarez for assignment
Angels designated LHP José Suarez for assignment,

Advice: It was pretty obvious this was coming after Suarez gave up five runs in an inning Sunday against the Giants. It left the 26-year-old with an 8.15 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this season and an 8.22 ERA in 69 innings since the beginning of last year. He was pretty good between 2021 and ’22 (16-16, 3.86 ERA, 188/69 K/BB in 207 1/3 IP), and another franchise might have more luck with him. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Contract selected by Halos
The Angels selected the contract of Plesac on Monday.

Advice: After being designated for assignment by the Angels on April 8, Plesac stayed with the organization in Triple-A after passing through waivers. Across 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake, Plesac holds a 3-7 record with a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. However, over his last two starts, he's given up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 15.1 innings. With Chase Silseth (elbow) close to returning from the 60-day IL, Plesac will likely operate out of the Angels' bullpen after right-hander Jose Suarez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. • Moves up to leadoff without Betts
Ohtani will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Monday's game in Colorado.

Advice: In the Dodgers' first game without Mookie Betts (hand), Ohtani slides up one spot and will be followed by Will Smith, who moves from cleanup to the two hole. Ohtani also hit leadoff once back on May 18 when Betts had a day off. It's the only two times this season he hasn't hit second. Rotowire.com Today, 2:15 pm

    • Making rehab start Wednesday
Padres manager Mike Shildt said that Darvish (groin) will make a rehab start Wednesday with High-A Fort Wayne, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The upcoming rehab start will take a potential return from the 15-day injured list off the table this week, but Darvish shouldn't need more than one tune-up outing in the minors before slotting back into the San Diego rotation. Darvish previously bypassed a rehab assignment when he was on the IL earlier this season due to neck tightness, but the Padres will act more cautiously with the right-hander this time around while he works his way back from a left groin strain that has thus far kept him out for three weeks. • Yu Darvish (groin) set for rehab start Wednesday
The Padres will have Yu Darvish make a rehab start with high-A Fort Wayne on Wednesday.

Advice: If that goes well, he’ll probably jump right back into the major league rotation at the beginning of next week. Darvish has been out since May 29 with a groin strain. Adam Mazur presumably will make one more start for the Padres this week. Rotoworld Today, 2:14 pm

    • Undergoes internal brace procedure
Wells (elbow) underwent a UCL revision and internal brace augmentation surgery Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Wells avoided the second Tommy John surgery of his career, after he previously had the procedure in May 2019. However, while the internal brace procedure typically entails a shorter recovery timeline than Tommy John surgery, Wells will still miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign, and likely a few months of the 2025 season.
