  • Nico Hoerner out of lineup due to hand injury
    Cubs manager Craig Counsell now says X-rays last night on Nico Hoerner’s hand came back “somewhat inconclusive,” and the second baseman is not playing in Friday’s game.

    Advice: It was originally reported that the X-rays came back negative after Hoerner was hit on the right hand by a pitch. Hoerner, though, had some trouble gripping the bat and swinging today. Hopefully, this is still just a day-to-day thing. There is the potential for some bad news, though. David Bote is starting at second base tonight. Rotoworld Today, 2:26 pm
  • Fielding, could hit Friday
    Mateo (concussion) took ground balls Friday and could participate in batting practice, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Mateo was able to play catch Thursday and took another step forward in his rehab from a concussion he sustained June 2. The second baseman appears to be on track to return next week. Rotowire.com Today, 1:53 pm

    Seager (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

    Advice: The hamstring injury that caused Seager's departure from Wednesday's matchup with the Tigers is considered minor, but he'll still be out of the starting nine for at least one game. The 30-year-old is still on Texas' lineup card, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, and he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list.     Marlins placed SS Otto Lopez on paternity list.

    Pirates optioned INF Liover Peguero to Triple-A Indianapolis.

    Advice: Peguero was recalled earlier this week with Michael A. Taylor going on the paternity list. Now that Taylor is back, Peguero is on his way back to Triple-A. The 23-year-old infielder could be a bench option again at some point for the Pirates. Rotoworld Today, 12:35 pm

    Newman is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego.

    Marlins placed SS Tim Anderson on the bereavement list.

    Rays activated INF Taylor Walls from the 60-day injured list.

    Advice: Tampa Bay designated Harold Ramirez for assignment to make room for Walls, who has been on the injured list all season as he recovered from offseason hip surgery.     Amador has homered in three straight games and is slashing .333/.422/.741 with seven home runs and seven steals in his last 13 games for Double-A Hartford.

    Advice: The prized second baseman slashed .135/.309/.144 with one extra-base hit in his first 32 games of the season, so his overall season stats aren't spectacular, but Amador is beginning to show the type of update that his dynasty managers were expecting. Amador is also a threat on the bases, having stolen 22 bags on 25 attempts in 45 games. He should be Ezequiel Tovar's double-play partner in Colorado for most, if not all, of 2025.
