  • Heading back to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Advice: He'll give up his spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Daulton Jefferies, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move and is expected to serve as the primary pitcher out of the bullpen in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Following his call-up from Sacramento last Wednesday, Roupp made two relief appearances for the Giants and gave up three earned runs over 3.1 innings. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
  • Called up, will be primary pitcher
The Giants recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Wednesday's game against the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: Left-hander Erik Miller is slated to open the game for the Giants, but he's unlikely to work more than an inning or two before turning the game over to the bullpen. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Jefferies is expected to cover the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen as he makes his first appearance for the Giants since giving up five earned runs over two innings in a spot start back on March 31 in San Diego. The Giants optioned Landen Roupp to Triple-A to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Jefferies. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • Shuts down Tampa
Rea (3-0) earned the win Wednesday over Tampa Bay, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five over six scoreless innings.

Advice: It was a strong bounce-back effort from Rea after he allowed five runs on three homers against the Yankees in his last outing. Overall, it's been a strong start to the year for the 33-year-old right-hander. Rea's held opponents to one run or fewer in four of his six starts, lowering his ERA to 2.67 with a 1.22 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB over 33.2 innings. Rea's currently on track for a road matchup with Kansas City in his next outing. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
  • Kenta Maeda fans six, gets first victory
Kenta Maeda limited the Cardinals to one run in six innings and struck out five in the Tigers’ 4-1 victory Wednesday.

Advice: It’s his first win in six tries this season. Pitching with a couple of extra days of rest, Maeda had a little more velocity today, topping out at 91.6 mph, and he wound up with a nice 34% CSW in the 79-pitch outing. He’ll pitch in Cleveland next time out, making him a mediocre mixed-league play. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago
  • Miles Mikolas surrenders three runs in loss
Miles Mikolas yielded three runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Mikolas isn’t going to win many games by himself, and the run support isn’t there right now when he turns in an outing like this. The Cardinals have scored a total of 18 runs in the seven games he’s started this year. Mikolas is 2-4 with a 5.68 ERA. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago
  • Slated for rehab start
Hendricks (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Hendricks landed on the 15-day injured list last week with a lower-back strain but is ready to test things out in a game setting. He could potentially need just the one rehab start before returning, although given his 12.00 ERA and 2.10 WHIP over five outings before going on the IL, much figures to depend on how Hendricks pitches. • Heading out on rehab assignment
Alexander (ribs) threw live batting practice to Miguel Andujar (knee) on Tuesday and is now set to join Single-A Stockton to begin a rehab assignment Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alexander cleared his final hurdle to a return to the mound with Tuesday's activity, and when he does debut for the Ports, it will be his first game action since a March 6 Cactus League appearance against the Angels. Given the amount of time he's been sidelined, Alexander figures to need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, even though he'll likely be utilized for no more than two innings per appearance once he's with the big-league club. • Dominant for third win Tuesday
Spence (3-1) got the win against the Pirates on Tuesday, firing three scoreless, one-hit innings during which he recorded two strikeouts.

Advice: Spence got the fifth-inning call after starter Alex Wood labored to the tune of 93 pitches over four frames. As has become increasingly customary, Spence delivered an impressive multi-inning effort, his third three-inning scoreless outing over his last four appearances. Spence now has victories in back-to-back appearances as well and sports a 2.84 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across his eight trips to the mound. Rotowire.com Today, 11:50 am
  • Freddy Peralta suspended five games
Freddy Peralta was suspended five games after hitting Jose Siri on Tuesday.

Advice: Peralta was having another stellar outing for the Brewers on Tuesday and the only run he allowed was a home run from Jose Siri. Later in the game, Peralta hit Siri in the sixth inning which was deemed an intentional act by the home plate umpire and led to his ejection, as well as Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy. Peralta will appeal the five-game suspension handed to him by Major League Baseball, while Murphy was given a two-game suspension which he is serving starting on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 10:49 am
