Player Notes

  • First homer since mid-April
Sheets went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Monday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Sheets popped his fourth homer of the season and his first since April 17. He's struggled throughout May, hitting just .197 with seven RBI and five runs scored in 23 games. Positively, Sheets has collected six of those RBI in his last five starts and is striking out at just a 13.1 percent clip for the month. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:53 am
  • Slugs first homer
Solano went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 2-1 win over Miami.

Advice: Solano came into the contest having gone 2-for-13 over his previous seven contests, but he broke the slump with a second-inning solo homer for the game's first run. The long ball was his first as a member of the Padres after joining the organization on a minor-league deal in mid-April. Solano has never been much of a power hitter, but he's consistently demonstrated good contact skills and is slashing .321/.441/.464 in limited opportunities this season. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:17 pm
  • Accounts for lone run in loss
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Goldschmidt has homered three times over his last two games, though it's still too early to say he's completely out of the woods for his slow start to the campaign. He's shown some encouraging signs, hitting safely in all but one of his last 14 games while going 18-for-61 (.295) in that span. The first baseman is up to seven homers, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored and three stolen bases with a .222/.297/.359 slash line over 50 contests this season. Despite his recent success, he's striking out at a 31.5 percent clip and has struck out 32 times over 21 games in May. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:27 pm
  • Bellinger has two-hit game Monday
Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 against the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: It was a quiet day for the Cubs offense as they could only muster one run. Bellinger, however, has been hot at the plate since a slow start early this season. He’s 31-for-104 (.298) since April 13th.

  • Jon Singleton gets nod at DH with José Abreu back
Jon Singleton is starting at DH and batting seventh Monday with José Abreu back at first base.

Advice: We’re not sure how much we’ll see of this, considering that it means sacrificing some defense by playing Yordan Alvarez in left and sitting two of Mauricio Dubón, Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers (Meyers is the one playing tonight). If Singleton is going to stick in the lineup, it really ought to be over Abreu. Rotoworld Monday, 3:20 pm
  • Absent from lineup
Diaz is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in Seattle.

Advice: Victor Caratini will do the catching for Framber Valdez. Diaz -- who had started the last three games and five of the last six -- has just a .501 OPS in May. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:10 pm
  • A’s outright Jordan Diaz to Triple-A
Athletics sent INF Jordan Diaz outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: It’s surprising no one wanted to take a shot on a 23-year-old with some pretty good minor league numbers, but Diaz never has settled into a position and conditioning issues became a factor in his downfall with the A’s. Hopefully, he’ll earn another look at some point. Rotoworld Monday, 1:06 pm

  • Jeimer Candelario back in the lineup on Monday
Jeimer Candelario (neck) is back in the lineup on Monday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Candelario missed two games with a neck injury but is back in the lineup at third base and hitting third in the order. The 30-year-old has been turning the corner a bit in May, slashing .257/.313/.432 in 20 games in May with two home runs, 10 RBI, and just a 16.3 percent strikeout rate. He seems like a good bet to go on a hot streak in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Monday, 11:29 am
  • Justin Turner on the bench again
Justin Turner is on the bench for Monday’s game against the White Sox.

Advice: Turner got a day off on Sunday, but he remains out of the lineup on Monday with Daniel Vogelbach starting at designated hitter again. The 39-year-old is slashing just .222/.301/.359 in 173 plate appearances in 2024 with four home runs and 18 RBI. It’s possible that the Blue Jays will look to get at-bats for other players in his place, and fantasy managers can certainly look to do the same with a hot bat on the waiver wire.
