Player Notes

  • Picks up unconventional save
Ramirez recorded the final out in Thursday's win over Boston to earn the save.

Advice: Jason Adam began the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to leave the game after the Rays exceeded the limit for mound visits. Ramirez then entered the contest to record the final out with runners on first and third. He hasn't worked many high-leverage situations this season and isn't likely to see many moving forward given the depth of Tampa Bay's bullpen. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago
  • Impactful off bench
Stott went 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run during Thursday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Mets.

Advice: Stott initially was left out of the lineup against southpaw Jose Quintana -- a normal occurrence for the lefty-hitting second baseman -- but entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh. He walked in his first plate appearance and came around to score on a Kyle Schwarber double, drove in the game-tying run on an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, and brought the Phillies to within one in the 11th after a fielder's choice plated Nick Castellanos. In his last eight games, Stott is batting .478 with 11 RBI and 10 runs scored. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago
  • Swats solo homer
Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run during Thursday's 6-5 win over the Phillies.

Advice: Alonso tagged Taijuan Walker (foot) for a solo shot in the first inning, putting the first baseman in double figures for homers this season. He's now tied for the fourth most home runs in the NL and owns a .772 OPS with 27 runs through 164 at-bats. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago
  • No broken bones
X-rays came back negative on Walker's left foot after he was forced to exit Thursday's start against the Mets in the fourth inning, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Walker was hit by a line drive in the fourth inning and limped off the mound. The initial diagnosis was a bruise, and the negative X-rays are also a good sign. Even so, the Phillies are unsure if he will be able to take his next turn through the rotation. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago
  • Takes extra-innings loss
Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame, when the score was knotted up at four, and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to JD Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Mets up two. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago
  • Devers goes deep again Thursday
Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 with walk, two runs scored, and a solo home run against the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Devers hit the ball into the monster seats at Fenway Park against Rays starter Zack Littel for his sixth home run of the season. It’s his second consecutive game with a home run. Devers is hitting .288 with a .902 OPS in 33 games this season. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago
  • Lowe leaves the yard Thursday
Josh Lowe went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: It was Lowe’s second home run of the season. He hit an 0-2 pitch from Cooper Criswell into the right field bullpen that looked like it could’ve been caught by outfielder Wilyer Abreu. Lowe started the season on the IL, but he’s now hitting .294 with a .956 OPS. He really just needs to stay healthy for another big season.

  • Criswell has shortest outing in no-decision
Cooper Criswell allowed five runs (three earned) in 3 ⅔ innings in the Red Sox loss to the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Criswell was coming off his best start of the year in which he recorded nine strikeouts. He followed that up with his shortest start of the season and only three strikeouts. Criswell doesn’t work deep into games, but his ERA is still just 2.76 on the season. The 27-year-old journeyman right-hander is set to face the Rays on the road in his next start.

  • Littel gets no-decision Thursday
Zack Littel allowed four earned runs, struck out three and picked up the no-decision in the Rays’ 7-5 victory over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Littel was a member of the Red Sox for about a week last season before the Rays claimed him off waivers and turned him into a starting pitcher. He completed five innings and left the game with a 5-4 lead, but the bullpen couldn’t hold that lead. He has a 3.44 ERA on the season. Littel is set to face the Red Sox again at home in his next start.
