    • Kerry Carpenter (back) to start baseball activity
Kerry Carpenter (back) told reporters on Friday that he has been cleared to start baseball activities on Monday.

Advice: The 26-year-old slugger will need at least a couple of weeks to ramp back up and will require a minor league rehab assignment before he’s ready to return to the Tigers’ lineup. If all goes well and he’s able to avoid any setbacks, we could see him back in the Olde English D right after the All-Star break. Before landing on the injured list, Carpenter was hitting .283/.342/.572 with eight homers and 29 RBI in his first 50 ballgames. Rotoworld Today, 2:36 pm

    • Another rehab start on tap
Cabrera (shoulder) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk with four strikeouts across three innings at Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. He's scheduled to pitch again Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Advice: Although Cabrera was pegged for the loss Wednesday, he turned in a quality showing in his first minor-league rehab appearance. The 26-year-old is expected to throw four innings or roughly 60 pitches Tuesday as the Marlins work to get Cabrera stretched out and ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. It's unclear if he'll require another appearance at Jacksonville before being activated. Rotowire.com Today, 1:41 pm

    • MRI comes back clean
Torres (groin) was deemed day-to-day after an MRI came back clean Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Torres was lifted from Thursday's game precautionarily due to right groin discomfort and an MRI confirmed that the injury isn't any thing serious. Still, Torres may need a day or two for recovery, which could open up more work for Oswaldo Cabrera and Jahmai Jones. Rotowire.com Today, 1:33 pm

    • Gleyber Torres (groin) held out of lineup Friday
Gleyber Torres (groin) was held out of the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday’s tilt against the Braves.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder made an early exit on Thursday due to tightness in his groin. While it’s considered a minor issue and isn’t likely to land him on the injured list, he’s going to need at least a couple of days before he’s ready to return to action. Oswaldo Cabrera will cover second base in his absence on Friday night and will bat ninth against Chris Sale and the Braves. Rotoworld Today, 1:08 pm

    • To begin baseball activities
Carpenter (back) hopes to resume baseball activities Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Carpenter had been shut down since late May due to a lumbar spine stress fracture but is ready to begin baseball activities in the coming days. While he's still a ways out from returning, it's the first advancement he's made since being placed on the IL. Expect Carpenter to require a multi-game minor-league rehab stint before being cleared. In the meantime, Matt Vierling and Wenceel Perez should share the outfield with Riley Greene most nights. Rotowire.com Today, 12:53 pm

    • Idle Friday

Advice: Torres exited Thursday's game with right groin soreness and will get the night off Friday to recover. Oswaldo Cabrera will bat ninth and play second base. Rotowire.com Today, 12:38 pm

    • Goes yard again Thursday
Winker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: For the second straight game, Winker went yard in the sixth inning, this time taking Ryne Nelson deep. While those are the veteran outfielder's only two long balls in June, he's otherwise putting together an impressive month, slashing .389/.484/.519 through 17 games with nine runs and 10 RBI. • Torres (groin) not dealing with major injury
Yankees manager Aaron Boone doesn’t expect Gleyber Torres’ groin injury to be anything major, according to the New York Daily News.

Advice: Torres left Thursday’s game against the Orioles with the injury, but the good news is the Yankees skipper isn’t anticipating a major injury. Expect Torres to stay off the injured list and return to the Yankees’ lineup over the weekend. Rotoworld Today, 5:43 am

    • Homers in win
Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Gimenez entered the contest 0-for-13 over his last three games. The homer was his first since May 22, and it was his first extra-base hit since June 8. The second baseman is at a .257/.310/.357 slash line with five homers, 12 stolen bases, 37 RBI and 37 runs scored through 67 games this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:53 pm
