    • Activated for Sunday's start
The Diamondbacks activated Nelson (elbow) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start against the Padres on Sunday.

Advice: The right-hander has been sidelined the past couple weeks by an elbow bruise but is rejoining Arizona's rotation Sunday. Nelson could face some minor workload limitations given he hasn't pitched in a game since April 18. Rotowire.com Today, 11:08 am

    • Nelson (elbow) off injured list to start Sunday
Diamondbacks activated RHP Ryne Nelson off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Nelson is back to make a start Sunday against the Padres. The right-hander ended up missing the minimum amount of time while dealing with a bruise on his right elbow. Nelson was shaky in his starts prior to the injury, and fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streaming option. Rotoworld Today, 10:35 am

    • Throws bullpen session
Whitlock (oblique) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Whitlock emerged from the session without issue and will embark on a throwing program. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, "it's just the beginning," when discussing the right-hander's status. Whitlock was placed on the injured list April 17 and seemingly would need at least one rehab start. Rotowire.com Today, 10:30 am

    • Whitlock (oblique) ‘feels good’ after bullpen
Garrett Whitlock told reporters Sunday that he felt good after his bullpen session Saturday.

Advice: Whitlock will now take at least a couple days off before his next bullpen session, which has yet to be scheduled. The right-hander will likely need to make one or two more before a potential rehab assignment. There’s still no clear timetable as to when any of this can happen, however. • Undergoes MRI on Saturday
Kirby underwent an MRI on his right knee Saturday after being removed early from his start against the Astros on Friday, but the results are still pending, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Kirby's night ended Friday after a relatively modest 88 pitches due to the lingering right knee issue, which he conceded after the game he'd been dealing with "for the last couple of weeks." The general feeling after the game was he would be able to make his next start without issue, but manager Scott Servais said Kirby was sent for an MRI "just to make sure we're treating it the right way." Servais confirmed Kirby's arm felt good and added that he still expected the talented right-hander to make his next scheduled start, which is slated for Wednesday at Target Field against the Twins. • Confirmed to start Sunday
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Saturday that Nelson (elbow) will return from the injured list to start Sunday against the Padres, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Lovullo had indicated previously that it was likely to be Nelson making the start, and now he's made it official. The right-hander had to go on the IL in mid-April after taking a comebacker off his pitching elbow, but he'll make his return Sunday while skipping a rehab assignment. Nelson holds a 4.60 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB in 15.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:34 pm

    • In line to start Tuesday
Sanchez will start Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Sanchez was available in relief for Saturday's game, but because he wasn't needed, he's now set up to start Tuesday. Meanwhile, Spencer Turnbull will be available in relief Sunday in what could wind up being a piggyback situation with Taijuan Walker. The roles of all three pitchers seem somewhat in flux. • Sharp in win over BoSox
Lopez (3-2) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out eight.

Advice: Boston pushed across a run in the top of the first inning, but Lopez slammed the door shut after that, generating 19 swinging strikes among his 99 pitches as he tied his season high in Ks. The quality start was the third of the season for the right-hander, and Lopez will take a 4.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB through 37.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Mariners. • George Kirby undergoes precautionary MRI on knee
Mariners’ manager Scott Servais told reporters on Saturday that right-hander George Kirby underwent a precautionary MRI on his right knee.

Advice: Servais didn’t relay any results from that exam yet, but did note that he’s optimistic Kirby will be able to make his next start against the Twins on Wednesday in Minnesota. While it doesn’t sound like anything serious, the mere fact that he required an MRI has to be at least somewhat worrisome for fantasy managers. Be sure to monitor his status closely over the next couple of days. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:07 pm
