• Placed on paternity leave list
The Orioles placed Burnes on the paternity leave list Friday.

Advice: Burnes will likely be away for the remainder of the series against the Rangers as he welcomes a new addition to the family. The righty started Thursday's series opener and should be back in time for his next turn, which is tentatively lined up to come next week in Seattle. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:15 am
  • Cakewalks to ninth win
Burnes (9-3) earned the victory over Texas on Thursday, allowing one run on nine hits and no walks while striking out five batters over seven innings.

Advice: The Orioles were up 3-0 after one inning and 6-0 after three, so Burnes didn't face much pressure in the outing. The right-hander did tie a season-worst mark in allowing nine hits, but only one of those -- a fourth-inning Adolis Garcia solo homer -- went for extra bases. Burnes recorded a quality start after snapping a 10-game streak of such performances in his previous outing. He's tied for the MLB lead in that category with 13 on the campaign and has posted excellent numbers in his first season as an Oriole with a 2.28 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 99:24 K:BB over 106.2 innings. • Burnes picks up ninth win in route Thursday
Corbin Burnes allowed one run in seven innings and got the win in the Orioles’ 11-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Burnes gave up nine hits, walked none and struck out five. The win was his ninth of the year. Burnes was on cruise control in this one. Despite the nine hits, he allowed just one run on a solo home run off the bat of Adolis Garcia. Burnes lowered his ERA to 2.28 in the process. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mariners on the road next week.

  • In midst of rehab assignment
Roupp (undisclosed) made his third rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, striking out four over two perfect innings.

Advice: Roupp has resided on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list since May 24 with an unspecified injury, but he looks to be close to a return to action in the Pacific Coast League. He's cruised through his first three outings in the ACL, punching out 12 while not issuing a walk and allowing just two hits over five shutout innings. The injury came at an unfortunate time for Roupp, who possesses a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster and might have been under consideration to join the injury-riddled big-league rotation had he been healthy. • Next rehab outing set

Advice: Marquez made his most recent rehab outing Saturday with High-A Spokane and threw 58 pitches over four scoreless frames. The right-hander will head to the highest level of the minors to put the finishing touches on his rehab from Tommy John surgery, and he could make his season debut in early July. • Hayden Birdsong has encouraging MLB debut vs. Cubs
Hayden Birdsong allowed three runs with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Advice: Birdsong had an overall encouraging MLB debut on Wednesday. After a scoreless first inning that included his first career strikeout, he gave up a run in the second on two walks and a base hit. Two more hits and walk brought a second run in to score for the Cubs in the fourth. Birdsong had retired the first two batters in the fifth before Seiya Suzuki took him deep for a solo shot. That would be it for the 22-year-old right-hander, who ended the day with five strikeouts. A second start could come next week against the Braves in Atlanta. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:14 pm
  • Designated for assignment
The Giants designated Burgos for assignment Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: In the span of just two days, Burgos has been selected from Triple-A, optioned back to the minors and now will lose his spot on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old lefty gave up a run during his only MLB appearance Monday but sports a 1.64 ERA in Triple-A, which could spark some interest from other organizations in need of bullpen help. Hayden Birdsong was selected from Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:53 pm
  • Giants promote Hayden Birdsong for MLB debut
Giants selected the contract of RHP Hayden Birdsong from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 22-year-old hurler will make his big-league debut on Wednesday night after making just two starts at Triple-A Sacramento. On the season, he has compiled a 2.51 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 75/26 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings in 13 starts between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:53 pm
  • Jared Koenig records seventh victory in relief
Jared Koenig picked up his seventh win in relief after throwing a scoreless 10th Wednesday against the Rangers.

Advice: Koenig is the Brewers’ win leader even though he didn’t debut until Apr. 15, and he’s been burned as an opener three times, ruling out the possibility of anything aside from a loss. His ERA stands at 1.72, though his 33/11 K/BB in 36 2/3 innings is more good than great. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:17 pm
