• Could need just one rehab start
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday that Whitlock (oblique) will need just one rehab start provided all goes well in his outing Wednesday with Triple-A Worcester, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Whitlock has missed nearly a month with a left oblique strain, but the Red Sox apparently feel that he should be sufficiently built up after just the one rehab start. Cooper Criswell has been excellent since joining Boston's rotation, but he could be headed to the bullpen or back to Worcester soon. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • A.J. Puk rejoins Marlins pen after I.L. stint
Marlins activated LHP A.J. Puk from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Puk was a starter before going down with shoulder fatigue, but that went badly and he should be in the pen for good now. He might wind up closing for the Marlins later this season if and when Tanner Scott is traded, though if he’s throwing well, it’s very likely that Puk will be sent elsewhere, too. • Plays catch Monday
Dunning (shoulder) threw from 90 feet Monday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Dunning landed on the 15-day injured list last week with a right rotator cuff strain but said after Monday's throwing session that his pitching arm is feeling stronger. His stint on the IL isn't expected to be a long one, but he'll need to go through a throwing progression so a return when first eligible on May 21 might be a push. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • José Urquidy due for second rehab start
José Urquidy, who is on the IL with forearm inflammation, will make a second rehab start Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: Urquidy allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings Sunday for Triple-A Sugar Land. He’s hoping the upcoming start will be the last before he rejoins Houston’s rotation, but he’ll probably need to pitch a little better for that to happen. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Drawing start Wednesday
Houser will start on Wednesday in Philadelphia, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Houser made one relief appearance during a brief demotion to the bullpen, tossing two scoreless frames last Friday against Atlanta. There's no guarantee that he'll get any additional starts beyond Wednesday, especially with Tylor Megill (shoulder) a possibility to rejoin the rotation soon. Houser holds an 8.16 ERA in six starts this season. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
  • Back in bullpen
The Cubs recalled Cuas from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Cuas had just been sent down a day ago, but he's back to replace Adbert Alzolay (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. He will be used in low-leverage spots. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
  • Goes on IL with forearm strain
The Cubs placed Alzolay on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right forearm strain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Alzolay netted a save in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Pirates, although he gave up two runs (one earned) in the process. The righty hasn't displayed strong form this season, collecting a 4.67 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over 17.1 innings. Hector Neris will continue to operate as the Cubs' primary closer. • Return this weekend not ruled out
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Monday that it's "possible" Rodriguez (shoulder) rejoins the rotation this weekend against the Mariners, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Rodriguez got through a 30-pitch bullpen session Sunday with no issues and felt fine the day after. The next step for the right-hander has not yet been determined, however, and it's possible a return next week is more likely. Rodriguez has been out since the beginning of May with right shoulder inflammation. Rotowire.com 56 minutes ago

  • Cubs put ex-closer Alzolay on IL due to forearm
Cubs placed RHP Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list with a strained right forearm.

Advice: Those are never good. Alzolay, who also missed time with a forearm strain late last year, was bounced from the closer’s role in April after blowing his fourth save in seven tries. He had been reasonably effective of late and even picked up a save in a 10-inning game yesterday, but as a result of the injury, everyone holding on to him in fantasy leagues can probably move on now. Hector Neris has been the Cubs’ primary closer of late. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago
