    • Jackson Chourio reportedly on Opening Day roster
Jackson Chourio will make his major league debut next week, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg.

Advice: The 20-year-old and second-ranked prospect in baseball will make his debut against the New York Mets on March 28. It wasn’t a sure thing that the young star would make the roster given the Brewers’ depth in the outfield, but he’s clearly done enough to get the approval from the front office and coaching staff. The Brewers expressed how they’ve seen Chourio grow from a maturity standpoint and could be a reason why they made the decision to give him this opportunity. “I don’t think anyone handles (expectations) seamlessly the right way,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “But I think overall he will handle it just fine because I think he cares more about being good than being rich.” In his 14 spring games, Chourio has gone 14-for-49 (.286 AVG) with three doubles and three RBI. • Named to Opening Day roster
The Brewers confirmed Monday that Chourio will make the Opening Day roster, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: It was reported earlier Monday by skipper Pat Murphy that Chourio was "in the mix" to make the club's Opening Day roster, but Hogg established Monday evening that Chourio will be a member of the big-league squad to kick off the 2024 campaign. Expectations for the 20-year-old outfielder are high, especially following a massive eight-year, $82 million contract signed earlier this spring, and considering he's fared well against major-league arms in Cactus League play (14-for-49 with three RBI and eight runs scored over 14 games). Chourio is expected to see the majority of his playing time in center field, where he won a minor-league Gold Glove during the 2022 season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:04 pm
    • Jackson Chourio commits two errors in right field
Jackson Chourio went 1-for-3 and committed two errors in right field Monday against the Angels.

Advice: Chourio’s defense is becoming a topic in Brewers camp. He’s up to three errors now, though all of those have been committed in his four games in the corners. He hasn’t had any errors in 10 games in center, where he nearly exclusively played in the minors. There is the chance the Brewers will bypass Chourio and go with Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer and Blake Perkins for the two spots alongside Christian Yelich. Still, they have no financial incentive for doing so. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:39 pm
    • Oneil Cruz hits two more homers in rout
Oneil Cruz went 3-for-6, hit two more homers and drove in six runs Monday as the Pirates crushed a Phillies split-squad 11-2.

Advice: Cruz tied Kyle Stowers for the spring lead with seven homers. Anyone fortunate enough to draft him earlier this month should be pretty excited now, but it’s still probably worth paying the enhanced price he’s commanding in drafts; a 30 HR-30 SB season is well within reach here. • Kyle Schwarber fans three times in loss
Kyle Schwarber struck out all three times up Monday, lowering his spring average to .121.

Advice: We’re never going to worry about a veteran bat turning in a bad spring, but Schwarber’s has been truly ugly, with 17 strikeouts, four hits and no homers to date. There shouldn’t be any moving him down draft lists, but it would be nice to see him pick it up soon. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:24 pm
    • Hunter Brown goes five in no-decision versus Marlins
Hunter Brown allowed two runs in five innings and struck out five Monday against the Marlins.

Advice: All is looking good for Brown, who has a 2.84 ERA and a 12/3 K/BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings this spring. The test for him this year will be if he can maintain his stuff in the second half of the season. He’s a top-50 fantasy SP, but he might be one who is considerably better early on than at the end of the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:41 pm
    • In 'mix' for roster spot
Chourio is "in the mix" to make the Opening Day roster, according to manager Pat Murphy, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Murphy said that Joey Ortiz "has a good shot to make the club" during the same media scrum, so it's noteworthy that the team isn't publicly saying Chourio is likely to make the team. Chourio, who turned 20 earlier this month, is slashing .283/.313/.348 with zero home runs, zero steals, 10 strikeouts and two walks in 48 Cactus League plate appearances. If the Brewers want to give Ortiz regular playing time at third base, that would leave Garrett Mitchell, Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Joey Wiemer competing with Chourio for three starting outfield spots. There is no financial motivation for Milwaukee to send Chourio to Triple-A, but he still needs to earn a spot over the final week of spring training. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:02 pm
    • Jackson Chourio headlines Spring Breakout lineup
Jackson Chourio is in center field and batting second in Sunday’s Spring Breakout lineup.

Advice: It’ll be top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski toeing the rubber for Milwaukee in the showcase with fellow top prospects Tyler Black, Brock Wilken and Jeferson Quero in the lineup. It’s an interesting look at the future for the Brewers with Chourio at the epicenter. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:13 am
    • Racking up hits this spring
Arraez went 2-for-3 with a double in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies.

Advice: It's the fifth time in his last six spring games that Arraez has banged out multiple hits. The reigning NL batting champ has a .382 average in camp (13-for-34) with five doubles and a 0:3 BB:K, and Arraez is locked into the leadoff spot for the Marlins after posting a .354/.393/.469 slash line with a career-high 10 homers and 69 RBI in 2023.
