    • Tagged with third loss
Herz (1-3) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals. He allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Advice: Herz pitched a clean first and third inning but ran into trouble the rest of the time before getting pulled in the fifth. His rollercoaster rookie campaign continues as he's scattered impressive starts, like the two with double-digit strikeouts, with rough outings like the one on Sunday. The 23-year-old has a 5.17 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 31.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Today, 3:56 pm

    • Remains in rotation
Baz is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Yankees at Tropicana Field.

Advice: Baz will make a second straight turn through the Tampa Bay rotation as he continues to fill the spot that belonged to Aaron Civale, who was traded to the Brewers last week. After being called up from Triple-A Durham on Friday to make his first start for the Rays since July 10, 2022, Baz struck out six while allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings in a loss to the Rangers. Though he maintains a hold on a rotation spot for now, Baz could still be at some risk of losing out on a starting role once Jeffrey Springs (elbow) eventually returns from the 60-day injured list. • DJ Herz yanked in fifth inning against Cardinals
DJ Herz allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings on Sunday against the Cardinals. He walked two, struck out four, and took the loss.

Advice: There was a lot to like from this start by Herz despite a rather innocuous box score. He threw his second hardest pitch of the season at 96.0 MPH and missed plenty of bats with his fastball. He also spotted some excellent changeups against right-handed batters. He struggled to command his slider and cutter though and was inefficient as a result. There was also some bad luck involved as the Cardinals’ first rally was spurned by a bloop in front of James Woods that turned into a Nolan Gorman RBI double. Still, Herz is a fun pitcher who could be a tweak or two away from going on a run. Rotoworld Today, 1:47 pm

    • Picks up seventh win
Lopez (7-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks over six innings against the Phillies. He struck out six.

Advice: Lopez dominated once again with his sixth start of the season with five or more innings and zero runs allowed, tying him with Tarik Skubal for the most such appearances in MLB. Lopez lowered his ERA to an MLB-leading 1.71 in the process. It's tied for the fifth-lowest by an Atlanta player in his first 16 starts of a season since 1912 and the lowest since Tom Glavine in 2002. The 30-year-old is already up to 89.2 innings this season, which is his most since 2019, so his workload will be something to monitor in the second half of the season. • Reynaldo López shuts down Phillies, drops ERA to 1.71
Reynaldo López twirled six shutout innings on Sunday in a 6-0 win over the Phillies. He struck out six batters and walked three en route to the win.

Advice: All López does is keep runs off the board. This was the sixth start this season where he didn’t allow an earned run and he hasn’t allowed more than three in any outing. His fastball filled up the zone and his slider put the Phillies’ hitters away. He is a lock for the All-Star team and it’s a bit shocking the White Sox kept him in the bullpen for as long as they did. Rotoworld Today, 1:18 pm

    • Jared Jones (lat) return in ‘weeks, not days’
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington told reporters Sunday that Jared Jones (lat) return from the injured list will be in “weeks, not days.”

Advice: That’s not a huge surprise, but still a bit alarming to hear at the same time. Cherington did express optimism that Jones can pitch again in 2024, but the Grade 2 lat sprain will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future with the team already announcing Friday he won’t throw for the next two weeks. Fantasy managers should not count on Jones returning in 2024, but treat it like an added bonus if/when it takes place. Rotoworld Today, 9:46 am

    • Taking seat against lefty Sunday
Cruz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Advice: The shortstop was hit by an Edwin Diaz fastball in the ninth inning Saturday, but there's been no indication Cruz sustained a significant injury from being plunked. Even so, the Pirates will give the lefty-hitting Cruz the afternoon off Sunday while southpaw Sean Manaea takes the hill for the Mets. Jared Triolo will check in at shortstop for Cruz, who had started in each of the previous six games while going 8-for-22 with two home runs, one double, three walks, one stolen base, five RBI and three runs. • Receiving Sunday off
De La Cruz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Advice: De La Cruz started the previous 31 games but will take a breather Sunday after he posted a .222/.258/.421 slash line during that span. Nick Gordon will receive a start in left field while batting seventh in the series finale versus Chicago. Rotowire.com Today, 9:32 am

    • Bryan De La Cruz not in starting lineup Sunday
Bryan De La Cruz is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the White Sox.

Advice: De La Cruz gets a break after going 1-for-8 over the first two games of the series against Chicago. He’ll take a break with Nick Gordon playing left field in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 8:03 am
