      Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

      Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season.     • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
      Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



      Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

    • Notches 10th save
      Alvarado picked up the save in Monday's 3-1 win over Milwaukee, striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not allow a baserunner.

      Advice: Alvarado picked up his 10th save of the season, his first since May 21. The southpaw blew his first save of the season May 24 in Coors Field, but he has otherwise pitched well since his last save, recording a 1.50 ERA with six strikeouts and two holds over six innings of work.       José Alvarado fired a flawless ninth inning on Monday against the Brewers to collect his 10th save of the season.

      Advice: Alvardo got the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame after Jeff Hoffman worked a flawless eighth inning and needed just 10 pitches (seven strikes) to notch his first save since May 21. There isn’t a ton of clarity regarding the pecking order for Phillies manager Rob Thomson, but it appears Hoffman and Alvarado will continue splitting save opportunities depending on matchups.     • Receives injection in elbow
      Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Romano received an anti-inflammatory injection for his right elbow Sunday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

      Advice: Romano will be shut down for 3-to-5 days before planning to resume a throwing program later this week. The reliever received a similar injection for the same injury back in late March and wound up missing about three weeks of action, although it's not clear whether a similar timetable is expected this time around.     • Cleared to start Wednesday
      Singer (illness) is listed as the Royals' probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Singer looks to be in the clear on the health front after an unspecified illness left him feeling lethargic and unable to play catch Wednesday before the Royals opted to scratch him from his scheduled start Thursday against the Twins, according to ESPN.com. He apparently demonstrated enough progress over the weekend and shouldn't face any major workload restrictions when he takes the hill Wednesday.       Bellinger went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Reds.

      Advice: Bellinger played well, but the rest of Chicago's lineup could muster only five hits overall, which limited his ability to collect counting stats. The 28-year-old is batting .318 over his last 10 games with a home run, four runs scored and five RBI. If Bellinger gets more support from his teammates, he could really take off across the board, though he should have plenty of fantasy value either way given his ability to hit the ball over the fall and swipe a base on occasion.       Marte went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and a walk Sunday against the Mets, finishing with three RBI and two runs scored.

      Advice: Marte got the scoring going in the top of the first with a leadoff homer against Jose Quintana. He saved his best for last though, launching a decisive two-run shot in the ninth to propel Arizona to a 5-4 victory. The multi-HR performance was Marte's first of the season and the seventh of his career.       Ketel Marte starred Sunday going 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, two runs scored, three RBI, and a walk in a 5-4 win over the Mets.

      Advice: Marte started this game by taking José Quintana deep and ended it by homering off of Jake Diekman to put the Diamondbacks ahead.
