    • Nightengale: Rival execs say Alonso is staying put
      According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival team execs believe it’s more likely that Pete Alonso is not traded at the deadline.

      Advice: Nightengale mentioned that “rival teams who have expressed interest” in Alonso are “convinced” he will “definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race.” As of now, the Mets are just two games back and are 12-4 over their last 16 games. If the Mets do keep Alonso beyond the trade deadline, they will need to then decide how badly they want to extend him, but it would take one of the biggest power bats off the trade block this season.       Springs (elbow) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five across three innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Durham Friday, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The surface results weren't impressive for Springs, though all of his runs were surrendered on a home run. He also drew 12 whiffs on 29 swings against Triple-A Lehigh Valley, six of which came against changeups. In total he threw 45 pitches in his longest rehab outing since retaking the mound June 7. That workload suggests he has work left to do before being activated, but he'll soon need to agree to continue his rehab assignment with the team beyond the standard 30 days -- an option for pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery.       Advice: Witt had gone 10 games without a multi-hit effort before Sunday's performance. The shortstop closed the month 33-for-108 (.306) with 12 extra-base hits, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and six stolen bases over 27 contests. Through 86 games this year, Witt is slashing .312/.363/.534 with 12 home runs, 22 stolen bases, 54 RBI, 65 runs, 22 doubles and nine triples. He's made modest gains in plate discipline with a 7.3 percent walk rate (up from 5.9 percent last year) and 16.7 percent strikeout rate (down from 17.4 percent) to sustain his elite production. Since allowing nine runs and four homers against Baltimore on June 1, Bradley has been on a heater, posting five-consecutive starts allowing two earned runs or fewer while accumulating double-digit strikeout totals during two of those outings. During that stretch, he's completed 29 innings, allowing just four earned runs (1.24 ERA) with a 1.00 WHIP and 40 strikeouts. He'll look to keep things rolling during his next start, tentatively slated to take place next weekend when the Rays travel to Arlington to take on the Rangers.
