• Earns third save
Beeks allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Rangers. He did not strike out or walk a batter.

Advice: Beeks erased the first hit by inducing a double play, and he was able to finish the outing without too much danger. Unlike his save Friday, Beeks appeared to be the first option for closing -- Justin Lawrence hadn't pitched since Friday and was not used Saturday or earlier in Sunday's game. Through 19.1 innings this season, Beeks has a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB with three saves, a blown save, one hold and a 2-2 record. The southpaw's lack of dominance makes him an outlier in terms of a closer profile, but it looks like he'll get his chances anyway in the Rockies' committee situation after starting the year well. • Grabs win Sunday
Blach (1-1) allowed one run on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over five innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rangers.

Advice: Blach limited the damage to a run-scoring single by Adolis Garcia in the first inning. This was Blach's second start of the campaign, and he was able to throw 70 pitches (46 strikes) in a fairly efficient performance. The 33-year-old is at a 3.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB over 18 innings across five appearances in 2024. Blach has never been a pitcher known for racking up strikeouts, and his tenuous grip on a spot in the rotation, coupled with a challenging home park, will make him a risky fantasy option. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at San Francisco. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:45 pm

  • Pitches well in loss
Urena (1-3) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over 6.2 innings, but he took the loss Sunday versus the Rockies.

Advice: Urena pitched well, especially given the unfriendly venue, in his second start of the campaign. He's allowed four runs (three earned) with a 5:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings across two starts since moving into the rotation. Urena has a 3.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB over 32.1 innings across 12 appearances this season, though he began the year as a long reliever. If Nathan Eovaldi (groin) can return when first eligible May 18, Urena will likely return to the bullpen. A pair of off days (Thursday and Monday, May 20) could also allow the Rangers to get by with a four-man rotation temporarily, though Urena's pitched well enough that it wouldn't be odd to see him get another start. • Alex Wood lasts two innings in loss to Mariners
Alex Wood lasted just two innings in Sunday’s loss to the Mariners, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits.

Advice: Wood also issued a base on balls and recorded a strikeout in the abbreviated outing. The M’s scratched out a run against him in the first inning on an RBI single by Mitch Garver. They tacked on four more runs in the second — the final two on a blast from Julio Rodriguez. Wood generated just four swings and misses on 60 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll carry a troublesome 5.26 ERA and 1.78 WHIP into Friday’s matchup against the Royals in Kansas City. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm

  • Frankie Montas pulled in fifth against Giants
Frankie Montas was roughed up for five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings by the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Montas has shown better velocity in two starts since coming back from a forearm issue, but after a strong outing last week against the Diamondbacks, he didn’t do much to impress today, even while opening up with four scoreless frames. Just six of the 38 swings against him produced misses, and he allowed nine hard-hit balls. He’s a weak mixed-league option right now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:56 pm
  • Ty Blach gets best of Rangers, earns first win
Ty Blach pitched five innings of one-run ball for the win as the Rockies topped the Rangers 3-1 at Coors Field on Sunday.

Advice: Blach was making his second start in five appearances since the Rockies called him up on Apr. 21. He’s sporting a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings, even though he’s struck out a total of five batters. He has a 5.32 ERA in 16 starts and 33 relief appearances since first joining the Rockies in 2022. • Jalen Beeks gets third save for Rockies
Jalen Beeks earned his second save in four days with a scoreless ninth against the Rangers on Sunday.

Advice: Beeks might be the Rockies’ closer now, though we’re not sure it matters much. He has a 2.33 ERA in 19 1/3 innings, but that comes with a modest 14/8 K/BB ratio. While Justin Lawrence still projects better than Beeks going forward, he doesn’t seem worth rostering at the moment. Those in dire need of saves could try Beeks, but that’s not us saying we recommend him. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:06 pm

  • José Ureña loses in return to Coors Field
José Ureña took a loss at Coors Field despite allowing just two runs over 6 2/3 innings Sunday against the Rockies.

Advice: Urena has benefitted from facing two of the game’s worst offenses in two starts since moving into the Texas rotation, but he’s done nice work, giving up a total of four runs in the two games. He has a 3.62 ERA in 32 1/3 innings overall. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:06 pm

  • James McArthur closes out Angels to nab ninth save
James McArthur served up a solo homer in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to secure his ninth save of the season.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander allowed a one-out solo shot to Willie Calhoun but retired each of the other three hitters that he faced — needing just 11 pitches total (eight strikes) to navigate the ninth inning. On the season, he now holds a 4.42 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings while converting nine of his first 12 save chances. Despite some recent struggles, Royals’ skipper Matt Quatraro seems committed to keeping McArthur in the closer’s role, which means he’ll continue to have mixed league fantasy value.
