• IL stint likely
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after Friday's 3-0 loss to the Cardinals that Wicks will get an MRI for his right oblique and that a stint on the injured list is "likely," Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Wicks was lifted from Friday's game after just 1.2 innings due to right oblique discomfort. He was previously on the injured list due to a left forearm strain that kept him out of action for nearly six weeks. Wicks made two appearances since being activated from the IL on June 7, including Friday's start. Kyle Hendricks came in to replace Wicks on Friday, and he figures to enter the Cubs' rotation. • Cubs LHP Jordan Wicks (oblique) leaves game
Cubs LHP Jordan Wicks (oblique) left Friday afternoon’s game against the Cardinals with a trainer.

Advice: The injuries keep coming for Cubs pitchers. Wicks left the mound with trainers in the second inning on Friday. Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed on the broadcast that it was an oblique injury. We’ll have an update later once we know more, but it seems like this injury might require a stint on the injured list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:15 pm

  • Dealing with oblique injury
Wicks had to be lifted from Friday's start versus the Cardinals because of right oblique discomfort, Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wicks recorded just five outs before having to be removed. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said during an in-game interview that the pitcher "felt it pretty good," but the team won't know more until after he's examined following the game. Kyle Hendricks replaced Wicks on Friday and is the obvious candidate to move into the rotation if the young southpaw needs to miss time, which seems likely. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:09 pm

  • Exits outing with injury
Wicks was removed from Friday's start against the Cardinals in the second inning with an injury, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Wicks evidently tweaked something while surrendering a Dylan Carlson single with two outs in the second frame. The left-hander recently returned from a flexor strain, although it's not clear at this point whether that's what he might be dealing with again. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:44 am

  • Drawing start Friday
Wicks is slated to start Friday's game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Wicks worked out of the bullpen in last Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Reds following his return from the 15-day injured list, but he'll slot back into the rotation for Friday's series opener after Ben Brown (neck) landed on the IL. Given that he covered 3.1 innings and 52 pitches in his relief outing last weekend, Wicks should be fairly stretched out. Over his five starts prior to landing on the IL in late April, Wicks went 1-2 with a 4.70 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB across 23 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:17 am

  • Kodai Senga (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Kodai Senga said his bullpen session Wednesday went well. He’s expected to have two more before facing hitters.

Advice: The Mets don’t have a timetable for Senga at this point, but from the sound of things, he could begin a rehab assignment at the end of the month if he continues to progress. Senga has yet to pitch this season because of a shoulder injury. Rotoworld Thursday, 9:21 am

  • Royals bring up Anthony Veneziano from Triple-A
Royals recalled LHP Anthony Veneziano from Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Veneziano got into two games for the Royals in April and allowed one run in two innings. He has a 3.38 ERA and a 30/19 K/BB in 37 1/3 innings for Omaha. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:44 am
  • Moves up to big leagues
The Royals recalled Veneziano from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Advice: He'll join the Royals ahead of Thursday's series finale with the Yankees to provide the big club with a fresh arm out of the bullpen. Veneziano has made two prior relief appearances with Kansas City but has otherwise served as a swingman for Omaha this season, logging a 3.38 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 30:19 K:BB across 37.1 innings covering 17 outings (five starts) at Triple-A. • Set to face hitters soon
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Senga (shoulder/triceps) will throw two more bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: On Wednesday, Senga threw his second bullpen session since he was shut down with triceps tightness in late May. The session went well, and he will repeat the step two more times before being cleared to face hitters and eventually heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Senga has already been ruled out for the rest of the first half, but the righty remains optimistic he can be a contributor for the Mets after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:17 pm
