• Criswell allows two earned runs in win over Rays
Cooper Criswell allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in the Red Sox win over the Rays.

Advice: Criswell was solid in this one, and as now allowed three earned runs or less in each of his eight starts this season. Criswell ran into trouble in the first inning when he allowed three hits to his first four batters faced, with the third hit being a two-RBI single from Isaac Paredes. It was the only two runs Criswell would allow, as he was able to settle and allowed just two hits the rest of the way. Criswell will make his next start on Monday against the Orioles. • Draws another start
Brooks is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Rockies in Oakland.

Advice: After having not started in the big leagues since 2019, the 34-year-old Brooks was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas last week and impressed in his move into the Oakland rotation, tossing seven innings of three-run ball while striking out five in a loss to the Mariners. With three Oakland starters currently on the 15-day injured list and four more starting candidates on the 60-day IL, Brooks looks like he'll have a hold on a rotation spot until the Athletics' pitching staff gets healthier. • Picks up save Friday
Hader struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned the save over the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Hader made quick work of the Brewers, needing just 12 pitches to snag his sixth save of the year. After a disastrous start to his Astros career -- a 9.39 ERA with one save through nine appearances -- Hader has seemingly settled in with his new team. He's allowed just two earned runs over his last 12.1 innings, lowering his season ERA to 4.50. He's riding a 5.1-inning scoreless streak with three saves and a win during that span. • Ryne Nelson roughed up for eight runs in loss
Ryne Nelson allowed 11 hits and eight runs while picking up a loss and going only four innings Friday against the Tigers.

Advice: Nelson, 26, issued one free pass and struck out four. This makes back-to-back outings that the right-hander has allowed double-digit hits, and it’s pretty safe to say he isn’t fooling opposing batters right now. His ERA is now an unhealthy 7.06, and even with some issue in the Arizona staff, it would not be a huge surprise if he’s removed from the Diamondbacks’ rotation at this point. • Struggles again Friday
Nelson (2-3) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out four over four-plus innings to take the loss versus the Tigers on Friday.

Advice: Nelson avoided giving up a home run for the first time in three outings since he returned from an elbow injury, but that was the only silver lining on a dark cloud in this start. He allowed five runs over the first four innings and then failed to get an out in the fifth as the Tigers piled on the offense. This was Nelson's worst start of the season, but he's generally struggled with a 7.06 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 29.1 innings through seven appearances. He's tentatively projected for a difficult road start versus the Dodgers in his next outing. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:08 pm

  • Josh Hader holds former team scoreless for save
Josh Hader didn’t give up a run while picking up a save Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: Hader gets the save against one of his former employers in Milwaukee. The southpaw has now saved six games in 2024, and he’s nearly halved his 8.38 ERA on April 19 to 4.50. The issues Hader was dealing with in the earliest portion of the campaign appear to have mostly subsided. Rotoworld Friday, 7:55 pm

  • Dominant in win
Javier (3-1) earned the win over the Athletics on Wednesday, pitching six shutout innings while allowing two hits and one walk. He struck out eight.

Advice: Javier came out firing Thursday, striking out five of the first eight batters he faced before finishing with a season-high eight punchouts on the night. The right-hander threw first-pitch strikes to only nine of the 21 batters he faced, but he also produced 15 whiffs as he cruised to his third win of the season. It was a nice return to form for Javier, who was shelled for seven runs in his first start after returning from the injured list a week ago. The quality start was his third of the campaign, while it also marked the second time this season he's allowed two or fewer hits in an outing. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:08 am
  • Struggles against Boston
Littell didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Advice: Littell surrendered his first home run since April 22, yielding a solo home run to Rafael Devers in the second inning. Thursday's outing marked Littell's second time in nine starts allowing four or more runs. On the year, Littell owns a 3.44 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a 48:4 K:BB across 49.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with Boston during a three-game homestand early next week. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:54 pm

  • Surrenders two runs
Jansen (1-1) took the loss Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts over one inning.

Advice: Jansen took over in the top of the ninth with the game tied but fell to his first loss of the campaign. After striking out Josh Lowe to start off the inning, Jansen yielded a walk, two singles and a sacrifice fly to consecutive batters as the Rays took a 7-5 advantage and the eventual win. The outing raised the 36-year-old's ERA from 2.45 to 3.45. In 15.2 innings of work, Jansen owns a 21:10 K:BB and has yet to allow a home run. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:44 pm
