    • Start pushed back
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Gallen (hamstring) won't start Friday as scheduled in an effort to provide him extra rest, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander was originally set to start Wednesday, but Tuesday's starter Jordan Montgomery was pushed back a day since the start time was delayed two hours. Gallen apparently isn't having any issues with the hamstring injury that surfaced in his previous start, but Lovullo has still decided to give his ace some extra rest. The earliest Gallen will take the mound is Sunday versus the Padres, but it's possible he gets some additional time, as team off days Thursday and Monday give Arizona some flexibility. • Zac Gallen (hamstring) won’t start on Friday
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Wednesday that Zac Gallen (hamstring) will not start on Friday.

Advice: Lovullo noted that Gallen’s hamstring is actually fine now, they just want to give him some extra rest. Expect the Diamondbacks to finalize their rotation plans for the weekend shortly. Rotoworld Today, 3:32 pm

    • Logs first steal
Estrada went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Estrada reached on an error and recorded his first steal of the year to get into scoring position, though he was left on base. Considering he logged a combined 44 steals over the previous two seasons, it's unusual that he's been less active on the basepaths. It doesn't help that he's batting just .229 with a .248 on-base percentage for the year, though those numbers improve to .291 and .316, respectively, over the last 16 games. Estrada is still seeing a starting role at second base despite the early struggles, while Tyler Fitzgerald remains in more of a bench role. Rotowire.com Today, 9:38 am

    • Stumbles in Boston
Webb (3-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on nine hits and three walks over 3.2 innings as the Giants fell 4-0 to the Red Sox. He struck out four.

Advice: After four straight starts in which he lasted at least seven innings and allowed two runs or less, Webb struggled to put away hitters and generated only four swinging strikes among his 91 pitches. Despite the stumble, the 27-year-old right-hander still sports a 2.98 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB through 42.1 innings, and he's served up just one homer so far in 2024. Webb faces a tough challenge in his next scheduled start, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Today, 6:53 am

    • Set to start Wednesday's game
Montgomery is scheduled to start Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers at Chase Field, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Montgomery had been in line to take the hill Tuesday, but the Diamondbacks ended up scratching him from the start after he had gone through a full warmup while a bee swarm near the netting at home plate forced a two-hour delay before the game finally got underway. The Diamondbacks opted for an impromptu bullpen game in the eventual 4-3 extra-inning win, and Montgomery and Arizona's other rotation members will all get pushed back one day in the pitching schedule as a result. • Collects save in season debut
Duran gave up one hit and struck out a batter during a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save during Tuesday's 6-5 win over the White Sox.

Advice: In his first appearance since being reinstated from the injured list, Duran picked up right where he left off last season. He allowed a leadoff single to Tommy Pham before retiring the next three batters, ending the game with a four-pitch strikeout of Andrew Vaughn. It wasn't clear heading into Tuesday's game whether or not Duran would immediately slide back into the closer role after missing the first month of the season, but it appears manager Rocco Baldelli will trust the 26-year-old righty to work the ninth inning going forward. • Jordan Montgomery scratched following bee incident
Jordan Montgomery was scratched from Tuesday’s start against the Dodgers following a two-hour delay after a bee colony formed on the protective netting behind home plate at Chase Field.

Advice: Montgomery presumably went through his entire usual pregame routine prior to Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers before the removal of a bee colony that formed behind home plate resulted in a two-hour delay. It’s an unfortunate break for fantasy managers as the 31-year-old left-hander loses a start to one of the more bizarre incidents in recent memory. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:09 pm
    • Falls to Baltimore
Cortes (1-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Three of Baltimore's four runs off Cortes came in the fourth inning, as the 29-year-old left-hander took a second straight loss. Cortes had gone seven innings in each of his previous two outings, allowing just three runs while striking out 13 in that span. His ERA now sits at 3.86 with a 1.10 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB across seven starts (42 innings). Cortes is currently scheduled to face the Tigers at home in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:48 pm
    • Scratched after delay
Montgomery will not start Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: The beginning of Tuesday's contest was delayed roughly two hours after a bee colony formed on the net behind home plate, and the lengthy delay will cause Montgomery to sit down while Brandon Hughes starts in a bullpen game. Montgomery's next start will likely be pushed back to Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:17 pm
