• Beginning to ramp up rehab
Muncy (oblique) took swings off a tee, fielded groundballs and did some throwing Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Muncy's progress from a Grade 1 right oblique strain has been slow to the extent that he was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 21. However, the third baseman appears to be beginning to ramp up, and the Associated Press reports that his next step will be to take live batting practice before potentially beginning a rehab assignment. Muncy isn't expected to return to the Dodgers' lineup until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:22 am

  • Set to face live pitching
Rendon (hamstring) will face live pitching next Thursday or Friday and could return to action July 8 versus Texas, Michael Huntley of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Advice: Rendon has been participating in a variety of baseball activities -- including taking grounders, batting in the cage and running the bases -- so taking swings against live pitching is the logical next step in his quest to return from a left hamstring strain. Angels manager Ron Washington indicated Friday that he hopes the veteran third baseman can return for the beginning of a home series against the Rangers that kicks off July 8, though that date is certainly not set in stone. Rendon recently indicated that he's considering agreeing to a rehab assignment ahead of his return, but it doesn't appear he's made a decision on that topic at this point. • Productive from bottom of order
Rojas went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in an extra-inning win over the Twins on Friday.

Advice: Rojas was the only Mariner to garner multiple hits on a quiet night overall for Seattle's bats, and he contributed the first run of the game on a fifth-inning two-bagger that plated Mitch Haniger. Rojas now has four multi-hit efforts in the last 12 games, a stretch during which he's accumulated five extra-base hits despite a modest .250 average and .302 on-base percentage. Friday's production also snapped a rare skid for Rojas, who'd gone 0-for-14 over the previous four contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:29 am

  • Max Muncy (oblique) resumes swinging
Max Muncy (oblique) progressed to taking swings off a tee earlier this week.

Advice: Muncy isn’t eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until after the All-Star break in a couple weeks, but he’s starting to make some progress towards a second-half return. The veteran corner infielder’s recovery from a right oblique strain that he suffered back in mid-May has gone much slower than originally anticipated, and it’s certainly had a negative impact on the Dodgers’ overall offensive output. • Orioles outright Nick Maton to Triple-A
Orioles sent INF Nick Maton outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Maton will stick around as extra organizational depth after passing through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The 27-year-old infielder got into one game this season for Baltimore after appearing in 179 contests between the Tigers and Phillies since 2021. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:58 am

  • Anthony Rendon to face live pitching next week
Angels’ manager Ron Washington told reporters on Friday that Anthony Rendon will face live pitching late next week.

Advice: The 34-year-old third baseman is nearing the end of his recovery from a torn left hamstring and is closing in on a return to the Angels’ lineup. Prior to landing on the injured list in April, Rendon had been hitting .267/.325/.307 with zero homers, three RBI and three stolen bases through his first 83 plate appearances on the season. • Sitting Friday
Nevin is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Nevin will begin Friday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-7 with three walks, one home run and two RBI over the recent three-game series against the Angels. Armando Alvarez will start at third base and bat seventh against Diamondbacks right-hander Slade Cecconi. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:08 pm

  • Not in lineup Friday
Ortiz (neck) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cubs.

Advice: Ortiz has been dealing with a neck injury since last week's series against the Angels, and he was removed in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Rangers after going 0-for-2. Despite having a day off Thursday, Ortiz will be in the dugout for at least the series opener against Chicago. Andruw Monasterio will start at third base Friday and bat ninth against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:37 pm

  • Contract selected by Colorado
The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Advice: Schunk posted an .811 OPS in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2023 and has followed up with a .291/.339/.469 slash line through 69 contests this year. That production has come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so those numbers can't be taken at face value. Schunk will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game, and he should see some playing time between second and third base while up with the Rockies, though those opportunities could be limited with both Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon currently healthy.
