• Miguel Amaya strikes out twice, gets lifted
Miguel Amaya struck out in both of his at-bats before being replaced by a pinch-hitter Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s hard not to think that Yan Gomes would still be with the Cubs if Amaya weren’t hitting so badly that the team felt it had to make some sort of change. Amaya is currently at .192/.251/.263 in 184 plate appearances. Statcast believes he’s been quite unlucky, but just to the point at which he should be merely significantly below average, rather than having the sixth worst OPS among all players with 150 plate appearances. • Catching in AZL on Saturday
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Moreno (thumb) will catch five innings in an Arizona Complex League game Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Moreno was placed on the injured list June 22 due to a sprained left thumb, but Lovullo said earlier in the week that he expects the catcher to return after the minimum 10 days. Barring any setbacks this weekend, Moreno will be eligible to return Tuesday for the beginning of the Diamondbacks' road series against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:26 pm

  • Out of Thursday's lineup
Jansen isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Thursday against the Yankees.

  • Resting Thursday
Barnhart is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

Advice: Barnhart had started behind the plate in three of the past four games but will get a breather for the day game after the night game. Jose Herrera will handle the catching duties Thursday, but Barnhart looks poised to serve as the Diamondbacks' top backstop until Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is back from the injured list. • Getting breather Thursday
Amaya is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in San Francisco.

Advice: Amaya started four of the first six games after Tomas Nido was added to the roster, but he'll yield to Nido for this one. The Cubs will be trying to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Giants. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:22 am
  • Red Sox activate Connor Wong from paternity list
Red Sox activated Connor Wong from the Paternity List.

  • Getting rest day

  • Returns from paternity list
The Red Sox reinstated Wong (personal) from the paternity list Thursday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Wong missed the maximum three games while on paternity leave and will rejoin the Red Sox ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Padres. Tyler Heineman was optioned to Triple-A Worcester to clear room on the active roster for Wong, who should settle back in as Boston's No. 1 catcher while Reese McGuire serves as the backup. • Not close to return
Manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Diaz (calf) will be out for at least another week, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Diaz has resumed baseball activities but is not sprinting at full speed and is still experiencing some soreness. The Rockies have stressed the importance of Diaz returning at full strength, so his absence could extend into the middle of July. Jacob Stallings should remain the team's primary catcher in the meantime. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:45 am
