    Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Masataka Yoshida will not require surgery on his injured left thumb.

    Advice: He’s still going to be shut down for a couple of weeks before he starts swinging a bat again, but overall this is encouraging news for the Red Sox and for fantasy managers. Yoshida has been shelved since the beginning of May. He has hit .275/.348/.388 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over 89 plate appearances in 24 games on the season.     Estes will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Saturday's game against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.comreports.

    Advice: Estes has accumulated a 6.04 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 28.1 innings in Triple-A, but he will come up from the minors for his season debut nonetheless.     Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.

    Advice: The 25-year-old infielder flopped in his first taste of big league action in 2023, but perhaps things will be different this time around. Schmitt was hitting .276/.320/.448 with five homers, 31 RBI and five stolen bases through his first 33 games at Triple-A Sacramento.     Smith (shoulder) is slated for an appearance for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

    Giants placed INF Nick Ahmed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain.

    Advice: The 34-year-old shortstop sustained the injury on April 27 when he was hit by a 108-mph line drive against the Rockies.     The Mariners reinstated Woo (elbow) from the 15-day injured list prior to his start Friday versus Oakland.

    Advice: Woo will be making his season debut Friday versus the A's after missing the first month-plus of the season due to right elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old was spectacular during his rehab assignment, striking out 17 batters in 11.1 scoreless innings, and he'll have a chance to stay hot against a below-average Athletics lineup.     Johnson (elbow) began throwing off a mound Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Just six days after landing on the injured list, Johnson has already been given the go-ahead to throw bullpen sessions. He will presumably throw a few more before progressing to facing hitters, but the 33-year-old righty could be on track to return to Atlanta's bullpen when eligible May 19.     Saucedo (knee) underwent an MRI on Friday which yielded "overall positive" results, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Saucedo was placed on the 15-day injured list with a hyperextended right knee Wednesday and after Friday's imaging, the team is hopeful he can return to the bullpen when he's first eligible to be activated May 23.
