    • Looks sharp in live BP
Ferrer (shoulder) struck out all four of the batters he faced during a live throwing session Monday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Ferrer was cleared to face live hitters June 14 and is presumably close to a minor-league rehab assignment following an impressive showing Monday. However, the club has yet to reveal an exact timetable for the southpaw's return from the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:39 pm
    • Plays catch from 90 feet
Ohtani (elbow) played catch from 90 feet Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: Ohtani is throwing from 90 feet for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last September. He continues to progress in his rehab with no issues, and he's certainly shown no ill effects at the plate as a result of his ongoing recovery from the elbow issue. The Dodgers haven't ruled out the possibility of Ohtani playing the outfield at some point in 2024, though that still seems like a long shot. He will continue to serve as the club's designated hitter, with an eye on resuming two-way duties in 2025. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:12 pm

    • Expected back this weekend
Perez (groin) is expected to rejoin the rotation this weekend in Atlanta, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Perez got his pitch count up to 65 in a rehab outing with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday and threw some more pitches in the bullpen following the appearance. He's rejoined the Pirates in Cincinnati and will throw a bullpen session Tuesday. While the team has not yet declared a date for his return to the rotation, it's fully expected to happen this weekend. Perez has been shelved since late May with a strained left groin. • Back in Pittsburgh
The Pirates recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With David Bednar (oblique) headed for the injured list, Bruihl will be called upon to fill the open spot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The 26-year-old southpaw has given up four earned runs in 5.1 big-league innings this season, though he owns a 2.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 24.1 frames in the minors. He'll be used in middle relief while with the Pirates. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:36 am
    • Doctor to doctor: Pirates recall Justin Bruihl
Pirates recalled LHP Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Bruihl returns for another stint with the Pirates in the wake of closer David Bednar landing on the injured list. The 26-year-old southpaw allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings in six relief appearances earlier this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:53 am
    • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Cabrera (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Advice: Cabrera landed on the IL on May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and looked to be on the cusp of a return after making a three-inning rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. However, given the Marlins' decision to move him to the 60-day IL -- which now leaves him ineligible for activation for another two weeks -- it's possible that Cabrera hit a snag in his rehab start, or the organization is deliberately aiming to slow down his return. According to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com, Cabrera had been scheduled to make his second rehab start with Jacksonville on Tuesday and was expected to cover four innings or 60 pitches, but it's unclear if his move to the 60-day IL means that those plans have changed. • Demolishes 23rd homer
Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Angels while also drawing a walk.

Advice: Ohtani jumped on a hanging slider from Zach Plesac in the third inning and launched it 459 feet into the stands in right-center field for his 23rd home run of the season. The superstar slugger has now homered in three consecutive games and has collected at least one RBI in seven straight. Over that latter stretch, he's batting .481 (13-for-27) with six homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:15 am

    • Marlins transfer Edward Cabrera to 60-day IL
Marlins transferred RHP Edward Cabrera to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed with Cabrera’s return timeline as the procedural move was simply to free up a spot on Miami’s 40-man roster to bring in some emergency starting pitching depth. The 26-year-old righty has been out since early May with a right shoulder impingement. He’s now eligible to return to Miami’s starting rotation mix in early July. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:10 am

    • Collects second save
Chapman gave up a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Saturday to record his second save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Rays. He struck out one.

Advice: David Bednar is dealing with some tightness in his side and was unavailable, leaving ninth-inning duties to his 36-year-old set-up man. Chapman walked the first batter he faced before surrendering an RBI double to Yandy Diaz, but the southpaw got Isaac Paredes to ground out to end the threat. Chapman has been scored upon only twice in his last 10 appearances, posting a 1.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB through 9.2 innings over that stretch. Bednar's injury isn't considered serious, but Chapman should handle closing duties until he's ready to return. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:10 am
