• Removed from 40-man roster
Short was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Short is being swapped out in favor of Romy Gonzalez, who is retuning from the injured list. He played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Checking out of starting nine
Lopez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Lopez recently overcame a sore adductor and started at second base in the first two contests of the series in Tampa, going 2-for-7 at the plate. The White Sox haven't indicated that Lopez suffered a setback with the injury, so his absence Wednesday is presumably maintenance-related. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Returns from injured list
The Red Sox activated Gonzalez (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Gonzalez missed nearly a month of action with a left wrist sprain but has been cleared to return after playing three rehab games. The utility player is starting at first base and batting seventh for Boston on Wednesday in Atlanta. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Resting Wednesday
Lee is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: He'll bow out of the starting nine for the series finale in what amounts to a maintenance day after he worked behind the plate both of the previous two days. Martin Maldonado will replace Lee as the White Sox's starting catcher. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Alex Bregman dropped to sixth in Astros lineup
Alex Bregman has been dropped to sixth in the Astros’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s battle against Carlos Rodon and the Yankees.

Advice: It’s the first time all season that the slumping third baseman has hit lower than fourth in the Astros’ lineup. That’s what happens when you hit .195/.275/.260 with just one homer and 11 RBI through your first 138 plate appearances. Jeremy Pena will move up into the cleanup spot in the order with Jon Singleton batting fifth for the Astros on Wednesday evening. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Moves rehab to Triple-A
Gallo (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI on Tuesday in a rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Gallo went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and three walks between a pair of rehab games for Single-A Fredericksburg over the weekend and received the green light to move his assignment to a higher-level affiliate. He served as Syracuse's designated hitter Tuesday but could see action at first base and in the corner outfield for the remainder of his rehab assignment. Gallo may have to settle for a part-time role once the Nationals bring him back from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Out 4-to-6 weeks
Reds manager David Bell said that Encarnacion-Strand, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after tests revealed a new fracture in his right wrist, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Initial imaging after Encarnacion-Strand was hit on the hand by a pitch late last month came back clean, but subsequent tests revealed a right ulnar styloid fracture. The 24-year-old has hit a disappointing .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games for the Reds this season. Cincinnati will turn to Jeimer Candelario to replace Encarnacion-Strand at first base in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, while Santiago Espinal enters the lineup at first base. The Reds signed Mike Ford to a one-year contract Wednesday and could also turn to him for starts at first base while Encarnacion-Strand is on the shelf. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago
  • Getting Wednesday off
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: With southpaw Mitchell Parker on the hill for Washington, the left-handed-hitting O'Hearn will retreat to the bench. Adley Rutschman will get a day off from catching duties and will fill in for O'Hearn as Baltimore's designated hitter. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

  • Idle against lefty
Fraley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Fraley and fellow lefty hitter Will Benson will head to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Jordan Montgomery toes the slab for Arizona. Luke Maile and Stuart Fairchild will join the lineup as the starters at designated hitter and in right field, respectively, while Fraley and Benson sit. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
