Kimbrel (4-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings victory over the Diamondbacks, striking out one in a scoreless 11th inning.

Advice: He did hit Christian Walker with his first pitch of the frame, but Kimbrel quickly escaped the jam by fanning Jake McCarthy and then inducing a double play grounder from Eugenio Suarez. The veteran relievers then got rewarded when Jordan Westburg walked it off in the bottom of the inning. Yennier Cano worked the ninth inning at home in a tie game -- usage normally reserved for a team's closer -- while Danny Coulombe handled the 10th, so Kimbrel may not be back in the top spot in the O's bullpen just yet, but efforts like this should help him get there. Jax gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning Friday while striking out one, recording his fifth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Jhoan Duran got the call in the eighth inning to face the top of Toronto's order, leaving the ninth for Jax, but Jax ran into trouble with two outs after a Bo Bichette single kicked off a Jays rally. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli has been using Duran as a relief ace rather than a pure closer and Duran has three saves and three holds in six appearances since coming off the IL in late April, but Jax hasn't been the sole beneficiary of the available opportunities -- Caleb Thielbar and Cole Sands have also picked up saves since Duran's season debut. Brock Stewart (shoulder) could also end up in that mix once he gets healthy. Jax has a 3.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB through 17.2 innings on the season, and while Duran should see the majority of the save chances for the Twins, his main understudy could creep into the low double digits in saves by the time the season is done. Craig Kimbrel protected a one-run lead in the seventh inning Friday against the Diamondbacks, striking out one in a perfect inning.

Advice: This wasn’t exactly a low-pressure situation for the struggling Kimbrel, but the Orioles did manage to get him in against the bottom of the Arizona lineup. Kimbrel retired Blaze Alexander, Kevin Newman and then leadoff man Ketel Marte in order. One or two more similar outings might get him another chance in the ninth. Rotoworld Friday, 8:32 pm

Kimbrel was pulled in the ninth frame of Wednesday's game against the Nationals and was charged with two runs on two walks and a hit over two-thirds of an inning, though he was credited with a hold.

Advice: Kimbrel was called upon to protect a two-run, ninth-inning lead and initially appeared set to do so with little trouble, as he retired the first two batters he faced. However, Eddie Rosario then tagged the veteran closer for a solo home run, and Kimbrel followed with two straight walks before he was given the hook. Keegan Akin allowed one of the inherited runners to score, thus sending the game into extra frames. Though Kimbrel was credited with a hold, he was pulled in a save situation in the ninth inning for his second straight outing, so his hold on the closer role for Baltimore could be getting tenuous. Over his past five contests, Kimbrel has blown two saves in addition to being pulled from a save situation on two occasions, and he's allowed six earned runs while posting a 4:7 K:BB across 2.1 innings during that stretch. Crawford came away with a no-decision Tuesday as the Red Sox fell 4-2 to Atlanta, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The right-hander held a tough opponent in check, aside from a two-run shot by Jarred Kelenic in the third inning, but Crawford left the mound after 87 pitches (58 strikes) with the score tied 2-2. It was his fourth straight quality start and fifth of the season, and Crawford will take a 1.75 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 46:15 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next outing, which is schedule to come at home early next week against the Rays.
