    • Framber Valdez to go 70-75 pitches on Sunday
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Saturday that Framber Valdez is expected to throw around 70-75 pitches in Sunday’s start against the Rockies.

Advice: It’s no surprise that Valdez would be a bit limited in his first start back from the injured list, so fantasy managers need to be aware that he may not stick around long enough to earn a victory. That — and the high run-scoring environment in Mexico City — may mean it’s best to leave Valdez on the bench before inserting him back into lineups for next week. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm

    • Taken off IL
The Astros removed Valdez (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, per the MLB transaction log.

Advice: Valdez is set to start in Sunday's game against the Rockies as part of a two-game series in Mexico City. The 30-year-old southpaw landed on the Astros' 15-day IL on April 9 due to left elbow inflammation. Valdez threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, and he will likely be on a pitch count over his first few outings. Rotowire.com Today, 11:23 am

    • Astros activate Framber Valdez for Sunday return
Astros activated LHP Framber Valdez from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: It’s merely a procedural move as Valdez was set to rejoin Houston’s starting rotation to take the ball during Sunday’s series finale in Mexico City against the Rockies. The combination of some likely have some workload restrictions and Mexico City’s extremely hitter-friendly offensive environment make him a risky proposition for fantasy managers right out of the gate. • Pops third homer
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: He led off the game by ripping a Chris Sale sinker down the right-field line, but not much else went right for the Guardians on the night. Kwan managed only 11 homers total in his first two big-league seasons, but the 26-year-old already has three in 25 games to begin 2024. He's still making plenty of contact, too, sitting third in the AL in batting average at .343, just behind Jose Altuve (.346) and Salvador Perez (.344). Rotowire.com Today, 7:33 am

    • Mashes fifth homer
Semien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Friday's victory over the Reds.

Advice: Semien's eighth-inning homer broke the tie in a game that had been deadlocked at 1-1 since the second frame, and it ended up being all that was needed to lift Texas over the Reds in Friday's low-scoring affair. The 33-year-old has now reached the 20-RBI mark in just 27 games, though he's gone just 4-for-25 with two RBI across his last six contests. Rotowire.com Today, 6:22 am

    • Marcus Semien homers in eighth to lead Rangers
Marcus Semien hit his fifth homer Friday as the Rangers bested the Reds 2-1.

Advice: Semien nearly had two homers, but his 410-foot drive to center in the fifth, which Statcast said would have been gone in 18 parks, was caught at the wall. The actual homer was hit 392 feet and broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth. It gave hm 19 runs scored and 20 RBI in 27 games, even though it doesn’t seem like either he or the Rangers offense as a whole has really caught fire yet. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:22 pm

    • Fans nine over seven scoreless
Lugo (4-1) earned the win Friday in Detroit after he struck out nine and allowed three hits and two walks across seven scoreless innings.

Advice: The right-hander generated 13 swinging strikes on 103 pitches as he and Detroit starter Reese Olson combined to give up just one run in 14 frames. The swing-and-miss stuff from Lugo was a step in the right direction after he posted a 4.1 K/9 through his first five starts of the season. The beginning of Lugo's tenure in Kansas City couldn't have gone much better though, as he has a 1.66 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 38 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:48 pm

    • Seth Lugo fires seven scoreless to defeat Tigers
Seth Lugo delivered a masterful performance in Friday afternoon’s victory over the Tigers, racking up nine strikeouts over seven innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: Lugo scattered just three hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon. All of the hits that he did allow were singles, and the Tigers never really mounted a serious scoring threat against him. He got 13 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the day, posting an elite CSW of 35 percent. He has been everything the Royals could have hoped for so far — going 4-1 with a minuscule 1.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio across 38 innings through his first six starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:18 pm

    • Claims another save
Neris picked up the save Thursday against Houston, allowing two walks and no hits over a scoreless inning. He didn't log a strikeout.

Advice: Neris converted on his third save of the last five days and appears to have a decent hold on the Cubs' closing job, replacing Adbert Alzolay. However, Neris's walk issues persisted Thursday, handing out two free passes to bring his season total to nine in nine innings. His lack of control has been uncharacteristic, as Neris combined for just 48 walks in 141 appearances during his previous two seasons with the Astros. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:20 pm
