    • Alexis Díaz nearly blows save versus Cubs
Alexis Díaz escaped with his 11th save after giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Díaz got lucky when a pitch that hit both Nick Madigal’s hand and the knob of his bat was ruled a foul ball and was then fortunate again when Madrigal, as the tying run, was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Seiya Suzuki’s double. Díaz has a 5.91 ERA this season. He’s walked 15 and hit three batters in 21 1/3 innings. He’s simply not worthy of trust right now, but since he’s blown only two saves and the Reds don’t have anyone else they’re really wanting to turn to, he’ll probably remain in the closer’s role for now. Lucas Sims is likely still second in line, even if Fernando Cruz is the more interesting reliever these days. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:40 pm
    • Walks tightrope for 11th save
Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.

Advice: Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings. Diaz's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.91 with a 1.55 WHP and 22:15 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. He's converted 11 of 13 save chances overall. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:40 pm
    • Nabs save Thursday
Garrett earned a save against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, walking one batter in a perfect inning.

Advice: Garrett walked the first batter he faced but managed to retire the next three Arizona hitters to nail down his third save. With Edwin Diaz (shoulder) on the injured list, Garrett appears to be the Mets' top option for ninth-inning work. The right-hander has notched New York's past two saves, though they came 11 days apart. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:19 pm

    • Reed Garrett procures save against Diamondbacks
Reed Garrett hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Garrett has saved three games, and with Edwin Díaz out with a shoulder impingement, that number is likely to go up. Assuming New York wins games, of course. The right-hander did walk one batter, but he didn’t allow a hit and lowered his ERA to 2.54. If still available, Garrett is a nice stopgap closing option. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:57 pm

    • Converts 17th save
Clase allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned a save over the Angels on Sunday.

Advice: Clase worked around a two-out single to close out the 5-4 victory and pick up his 17th save of the year. He's gone 20.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run and he's converted 13 of his last 14 save chances. Clase's ERA is down to a ridiculous 0.33 with a 26:2 K:BB through 27.1 frames. • Allows two runs in no-decision
Manaea did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs, five hits and a walk over five innings against the Giants. He struck out six.

Advice: Manaea threw 88 pitches, allowing single runs in the second and third innings prior to exiting the game after five innings. He was in line for a tough-luck loss but was bailed out when the Mets scored three in the bottom of the ninth for the come-from-behind victory. Manaea entered the game on six days rest and tallied his seventh-consecutive start of allowing three or fewer runs. Through 10 starts, Manaea has a solid ERA of 3.16 with a 1.29 WHIP and 47 strikeouts over 51.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Mets travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:46 pm

    • Clase slams the door for 17th save
Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 5-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Clase allowed a two-out single but no other damage as he earned his 17th save of the season. The right-hander now has a 0.33 ERA and has been far-and-away the best closer in baseball so far in 2024. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:57 pm

    • Alexis Díaz fans two to earn 10th save
Alexis Díaz struck out both batters he faced for a save Sunday against the Dodgers.

Advice: The Reds were up 4-0 to start the ninth, so Díaz didn’t enter then. Instead, he came in after Carson Spiers allowed Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman to reach with one out, creating the save opportunity. Díaz then retired Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages to end the game. It was the 10th save in 12 opportunities for Díaz, who came into the day having allowed eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings this month. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:29 pm
    • Grabs 10th save
Diaz struck out both batters he faced to pick up his 10th save of the season Sunday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Diaz closed the door on the Dodgers for the second consecutive game, though he ran both counts full and needed 16 pitches to record the final two outs. It was the fourth consecutive scoreless outing for Diaz, who appears to be turning things around after allowing 17 baserunners and 10 runs (nine earned) while blowing a save and earning two losses over his previous seven appearances spanning 5.2 innings between April 29 and May 19.
