• Heading back to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Advice: After being recalled from Sacramento on May 12, Matos operated as a near-everyday player during his three-plus-week stay with the Giants, but he moved to the bench Monday after Michael Conforto was reinstated from the IL. Though Matos rejoined the lineup Tuesday against Diamondbacks lefty Blake Walston, Matos will lose his spot with the Giants bringing back another right-handed-hitting outfielder (Austin Slater) back onto the active roster for Wednesday's series finale in Arizona. Matos likely would have had a case for sticking around with the Giants if he had been performing well, but he had fallen into a 2-for-22 drought at the dish over his last six starts. • Starting in return from IL
The Giants reinstated Slater (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff in the Giants' series finale versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Outfielder Luis Matos was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the active roster for Slater, who will slot back into the lineup Wednesday while Arizona brings lefty Jordan Montgomery to the hill. Slater should continue to see the overwhelming majority of his starts against southpaws, serving as a short-side platoon mate for either Mike Yastrzemski or Michael Conforto. Slater had been on the IL since May 11 while recovering from a concussion but was able to knock off some rust during a five-game rehab assignment with Sacramento. Rotowire.com Today, 11:06 am
  • Austin Slater back from concussion list
Giants activated OF Austin Slater from the seven-day concussion list.

Advice: Slater, who had been out since May 10, will resume his usual role of starting against lefties, probably over Mike Yastrzemski for the most part, and sitting the rest of the time. Rotoworld Today, 11:04 am
  • Giants send Luis Matos to Triple-A
Giants optioned OF Luis Matos to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Matos cooled off quickly after a big start for the Giants, going 9-for-59 with no extra-base hits in his last 14 games. He’s still just 22 years old, and he’ll definitely get more chances, but the Giants are picking Heliot Ramos over him for now. Rotoworld Today, 11:02 am

  • Sitting against righty Wednesday
Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Bauers will take a seat for the second day in a row, this time against a right-handed pitcher (Aaron Nola) after his absence from the lineup for Tuesday's 2-1 loss came while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez started for Philadelphia. Though he's been playing more often than not against right-handed pitching of late, Bauers is slashing just .176/.276/.314 over his last 15 games and could begin to lose out on starts more frequently if he fails to right the ship. • Starling Marte becomes a late scratch Wednesday
Starling Marte was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup for unknown reasons.

Advice: Tyrone Taylor slides into right field in Marte’s place against the Nationals. Rotoworld Today, 10:51 am
  • Receiving rest day
Senzel is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Senzel will hit the bench for the series finale, ending a stretch of 12 consecutive starts during which he slashed a robust .343/.410/.457 at the plate. Ildemaro Vargas will get a turn at third base while Senzel rests. Rotowire.com Today, 10:47 am

  • Scratched from Wednesday's lineup
Marte was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals for an unspecified reason.

Advice: The Mets haven't provided an immediate explanation for why Marte was removed from the starting nine, but the team should offer an update later Wednesday. Tyrone Taylor will enter the lineup as a replacement for Marte, who had started in both of the first two games of the series in Washington while going 4-for-8 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, four runs and two RBI. • Hits game-tying homer
Freeman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Advice: Freeman's homer tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning. He hit eighth Tuesday, the lowest he's been in the order since May 9, though it was expected he'd see less time in the top-third of the lineup following Steven Kwan's return from a hamstring injury. Freeman is batting a respectable .256 over his last 20 games, though his season average remains at .219 with a .666 OPS, five homers, 24 RBI, 33 runs scored and eight stolen bases through 54 contests.
