• Sent back to minors
Morris was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: Morris was called up to the majors Saturday but did not make an appearance. He'll head back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he's allowed six earned runs and maintained a 9:6 K:BB across eight innings early on in the campaign. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Shuttled back to Indy
Ryan was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Ryan has had success in the majors this season, maintaining a 3.00 ERA with a 13:5 K:BB across 12 innings. He threw 1.2 scoreless frames Thursday against the Brewers, so this move is likely just a roster shuffle to get a fresh arm in the Pirates' bullpen in the short term. No corresponding move was announced. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

  • Mason Miller records four-out save vs. Yankees
Mason Miller recorded a four-out save on Thursday against the Yankees.

Advice: Miller might be the most electrifying pitcher in baseball at the moment. Athletics manager Mark Kotsay handed him the ball for a four-out save opportunity at Yankee Stadium and he immediately responded by striking out Jose Trevino on a 101 mph fastball to end the eighth inning. He came back out to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and recorded two additional strikeouts to successfully work around a one-out infield single from Anthony Volpe. The hard-throwing 25-year-old former top pitching prospect has converted all six of his save opportunities this season to go along with a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 23/4 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings (nine appearances). • Alex Wood goes 5 2/3 innings to beat Yankees
Alex Wood allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Yankees.

Advice: Wood was tagged for eight hits, but a second-inning solo shot from Jose Trevino represented the lone tally against him in this one. He struck out five and only issued two walks. He’ll carry an underwhelming 6.59 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 25/13 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the Pirates. Rotoworld Today, 6:38 pm

  • Tosses scoreless frame
Sborz threw a scoreless ninth inning in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Sborz, who was activated off the injured list Thursday, retired the side in order, needing just nine pitches. He was placed on the IL due to a shoulder injury April 7 after just three appearances. The back end of the bullpen has changed since then -- Kirby Yates replaced Jose Leclerc as the closer -- but Sborz should remain part of the setup group. Rotowire.com Today, 6:06 pm

  • Pirates option Ryder Ryan back to Triple-A
Pirates optioned RHP Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Ryan heads back to the minors ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Giants to allow the Pirates to bring in a fresh bullpen arm. The 28-year-old righty has held his own in eight relief appearances this season for Pittsburgh. Rotoworld Today, 5:31 pm

  • Marlins activate Huascar Brazoban from restricted list
Marlins activated RHP Huascar Brazoban from the restricted list.

Advice: Brazoban missed all of spring training, and the opening month of the regular season, due to visa issues. The 34-year-old righty was a lynchpin for Miami’s bullpen mix over the last two seasons, so his imminent return will certainly provide a lift. He’ll presumably be ready to roll for Friday’s series opener against the Nationals. Rotoworld Today, 5:28 pm
  • Cole Ragans collects win in rain-shortened start
Cole Ragans held the Blue Jays to one run over five innings to collect his first win of the season in a rain-shortened start.

Advice: Ragans would have been able to go another inning or two if not for a nearly four-hour rain delay that eventually wound up ending the contest altogether. The 26-year-old left-hander bounced back from a dreadful outing last Saturday agains the Orioles when he allowed seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings. A run-scoring single by Ernie Clement in the fourth inning accounted for the only damage against him in this one.. Ragans has mostly looked the part so far in 2024, and he’ll have a rematch with the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Rotoworld Today, 5:17 pm

  • Evan Phillips nets seventh save Thursday vs. Nats
Evan Phillips struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Thursday against the Nationals to record his seventh save of the season.

Advice: Phillips was called upon to guard a one-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 14 pitches (10 strikes) to slam the door for the second time in the brief three-game series. The 29-year-old righty has converted each of his seven save opportunities this season to go along with a microscopic 0.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 13/4 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings (11 appearances).
